Owners Having Difficulty Getting Summer Week at Aqua?

My friend is a high season owner at Aqua and was told that it would be impossible for him to reserve a summer week at Aqua to trade with RCI unless he personally showed up in San Diego by 8am one morning. Is that true?

Thanks!

Told that by who? I haven't been able to get 4th of July week but mid-Jun has been no problem, trades great.

If you mean Aquamarine Villas, then no, it is not true, at least if you are reserving 2 years in advance, which you are permitted to do. I reserved the week July 8 to July 15, 2010 with no problem. The staff there are a pleasure to deal with over the telephone.

Call exactly two years to the day from when you want to reserve. For example, at 8 am PDT tomorrow, 7/30/2008, call and reserve Friday, 7/30/2010.

I also think the staff is very helpful and pleasant to deal with.

I called this morning and got an August week for 2010.

Depending on what check in day you want, there are different quantities of weeks available. The order is:
1. 1st person at the door
2. 1st person who calls
3. 1st letter or fax
and so on.

SO, if you faxed in a request and the day you wanted only has two weeks available, you'd be out of luck.

On the other hand, if you're flexible, and are willing to take one of a few check in days, and call exactly at 8, you should be fine.

Reminder, you can't get a FRI or SAT check in if you want to use it for exchanging.

What is that based on? They don't have Saturday check-ins but I don't see how they could prevent a deposit based on the day of the week that you reserved. I own the week, I can do what I like with it.

Oops, I meant Friday or Sunday check in.

I was told, when trying to reserve a week, that I couldn't deposit a FRI or SUN week, because those are reserved for owners actually using their weeks, not for deposits.

I don't know, it was just what I was told

I've never heard of this rule at Aqua but, you don't own a specific week, if you owned a fixed week what you say could be true but in a floating or point system, the rules rule.

This years reservation process for 2010 is, in my opinion a NIGHTMARE!!!. We own 2 weeks, and I have been told that it's first in the door, then 1st letter or fax, finally ifnaything left the phone calls (but they never answer the $%^% phone) but no Emails - I will let you know if we ever get our summer requested weeks - but I am not very hopeful...and BTW there are apparently no Saturday check-ins...... Iliked it a whole lot better when Dee was there.

Hi Barb,

What weeks did you request?

I actually called during mid day, to try and find out exactly what was going on.

I got the week I wanted, with one phone call, but remain quite confused about the info I was given by the girl I talked to. I never got my questions answered to my satisfaction.

I plan to call next week, and ask for contact info for the Homeowners Assocation, to get a clearer picture.

I've also had a terrible time reserving my 2010 week at Aquamarine Villas. Tried the whole month of July to get a week. Was the 5th caller or even the 1st caller. They take names, and call you back later in the day if you were successful at getting a week. I've never had such a hard time getting a week at any resort - Marriott, etc. They also told me I couldn't deposit a fri, sat, or sunday check-in to RCI. Only mon-thur deposits would be deposited into RCI. I finally was successful after about 20 calls. They said walk-ins are taken first, etc.

Do you think that July weeks or weekend check ins are harder....that's why you had such a difficult time?

What week did you finally get?

That seems an odd way to do business. It would be enough for me to not want to own there. If you book your week and intend to use it, there is no reason you can't give it to an independent such as SFX later on. Maybe they have a bulk banking worked out with RCI.

After my initial telephone calls went either unanswered or unreturned, they finally called me back and I tried to clarify their new "process". As directed by them I sent them a letter (which they have received) requesting any day of the week check-in for any week between week 27 and 33 - despite having a call back 3 weeks ago to say there are units coming up the following day - so far nothing. I have never had this problem before and we have owned there for a number of years. The July weeks appeared to be impossible to get unless you were there in the offcie when they opened or were really really lucky with the phones, Getting there in person is a little difficult as we live in Ontario - Canada that is...

I haven't heard that they won't permit deposit of summer weeks with weke4nde check-ins with RCI (maybe that news is yet to come as the story changes???) - that would be a significant change from their operating and reservation system and one not previously identified to owners, but they did tell me that we now have to deposit with RCI - no more them doing it for us..another change...and they don't bulk bank with RCI, Liz - not enough units are in the resort.

For 2010, this is an easy exchange in RCI. But who wants to fork over the $164 for that convenience?
(Wouldn't this be a more appropriate post for the Western forum since the premise of this topic isn't pertaining to an Exchange, but a reservation?)

yes skimble that's an idea and I'm sure one of our eagle-eyed efficient moderators can do just that.....
but on the reservation front - I just got off the phone with Stacey and I got one of my weeks for 2010, starting 2 years from today..

I also confirmed the order that they take reservations (this year) is the first person in line, then the first phone call, then the first written request, then repeat until all units that day are gone......There is no "magic" telephone direct dial number to call, just the standard number and press "0" and there does not appear to a restriction on depositing summer weeks with RCI as I did enquire about that.

Well, that irritates me, as i was told not once, but twice, about a restriction of owners depositing FRI or SUN check in weeks.

It's not like I truly care; if that's a decision made, I can live with it. But it sounds like it's arbitrary, and how can they enforce it, if they don't deposit for you?

well JT, my 2010 week for August 10 actually is a Tuesday check-in - go figure - so maybe what I should have asked was "if I get a Friday or Sunday check-in can I deposit with RCI?" - but I agree how can they stop you from depoisting with RCI - unless they refuse to verify the week when RCI gets in touch with them to confirm mf payments etc??
