I just want to share that I used owner services this week to cancel one of my June reservations for South Carolina. I had reservations for Barony Beach, Grande Ocean and Oceanwatch. I decided to cancel two of the reservations before the 60 day cancellation. The rep I had was very nice. She reviewed my reservations and I’m not sure of what she did and how she did it, but when she finished working with whomever there at Marriott s I was placed on hold for a few times as it took time, my points were rearranged. I now had banked 2019 points that I could now use in 2021 and I had 2020 points that were banked tha I could use in 2022. Now I know part of it is I can extend points six months into the next year because I’m at the presidential level, but the 2019 banked points being able to be used beyond 2020 change was significant. I have points banked points for 2021-2022 and I HAVE NOT elected points for my three properties for 2021 yet. So if I end up canceling my Oceanwatch trip, I will have points from years 2019, 2020 for use in 2021 and 2022 without using any 2021 points. We are talking 10,000+ points. I didn’t ask for anything but to cancel a reservation and this was the response I received. I do believe that canceling before the 60 day deadline contributed to what they were able to as that probably increased flexibility, but that’s just my opinion.I’m retiring in 2021, so I’ll have plenty of time to use those points! In this case, great job, Marriott!

As a Presidential owner, 2019 banked points have an expiration of June 30, 2021 and 2020 banked points have an expiration of June 30, 2022. Did she give you 2 full years instead of the standard 18 months for each set of banked points?

She gave me 18 months until July. What they apparently reconfigured the points to maximize their use for the longest amount of time.

But that is normal. 2019 use year when banked, can be use until July 2, 2021. That is what shows up for my 2019 banked points.

i went to the points transaction history. I see what through me off. The banking of the 2019 points says use year January 2020 - December 2020. It doesn’t say July 2021. So some of the 2020 points have been banked into 2021, which for presidential level is July 2022. Makes sense.

My taking from this is the flexibility given when making the decision prior to the 60 day cancellation is pretty significant for those who can get extended time to use points. Also, owner services making that extra effort and taking that initiative to recognize and take care of that was big in my eyes. I have seen where you can go online and maneuver your points yourself, but sometimes it’s a lot easier if someone else does it and if it’s done right, that’s even better. Plus, this did not even cost extra money for them to do that.

I agree that cancelling before 60 days is significant, so that the points do not end up in Holding Point Account. What I am trying to point out is that the agent did not do anything extra other than cancelling the reservation. The points would automatically return to the banked points account.
For Presidential status, the following applies:
Use year 2020 points before banking would show up under January 1 2020 - December 31 2020.
Use year 2020 points once banked would show up under January 1 2021 - July 2 2022 (+/- 1 day on the end date).
Use year 2019 points once banked points would show up under January 1 2020 - July 2 2021.

i understand what you’re saying. I was thinking about posts where people have shared that they keep spreadsheets to make sure they are using the right points from specific years for their reservations. You’re correct, upon further review, she did not provide anything extra except organizing and simplifying for me early.

I called Owner services this week to cancel my Ritz Vail June reservation prior to the 60 days, and to reallocate points for my October reservation at Crystal Shores. I wanted to use my earliest expiring points for the Oct reservation. I was on hold for a while while rep waited for the IT people who could reallocate, but everything was done accurately. I rebooked my Vail trip within 60 day window and saved 650 VC points. I hope to still go since we primarily hike and stay away from crowds, but I can cancel if necessary and use the points later this year or in 2021.

I found it interesting that the rep offered to sell me more VC points at a discounted price, so it appears MVC is now utilizing Owner services to sell points while the sales offices are shut down.

What sort of discount was being offered?

I didn't really pay attention since we currently are chairman and have more points that we can usually use. I called on the chairman line, so I'm not sure whether other levels are also getting these offers. My wait time was only about 10 minutes and the call was answered faster than my chat request.

You still need to think for yourself, as with the ability to bank points for more than a year, the system will recommend using earlier year unrestricted points (say 2021 calendar Use Year) before it would recommend using banked 2020 points that don’t expire until mid-2022, as it merely looks at the current end date and makes a determination the calendar year 2021 points expire sooner. What it currently is not smart enough to do is realize that you have the ability to bank those 2021 points forward for use until mid 2023. A current flaw in the system from my perspective.

Does anyone know if these reps (who are aiming to please) are working from home or are they going into the office?
