Hello. I am attending a conference in Orlando this July and am hoping to get a last minute deal using HGVC. I am wondering if any of our east coasters (who frequent the area) can tell me the likelihood of picking up a 3 bdrm unit. Preference would be I-Drive... Are the 3 bdrms something you can get during the open season?

And, is it 30 days in advance, or 45? (Did this once, but cannot remember... and website is down.)

Open Season is 30 days b4 check-in.
You'll be okay. Summer is low season in Orlando, and
all resorts have plenty of availability at 30 days out.

An idea -- Book an Embassy Suites, Homewood Suites
or other hotel "just in case," and cancel when HGVC opens.

I won't count on it. The kids are out of school so there will be more competition for 2 & 3 bedroom from families looking to vacation.

Crossing my fingers for 7/8 - 7/12... We can make do with a 2 bdrm, and I'm sure that won't be a problem. So, time will tell. I thought summer might be tough for a 3 bdrm (kids out of school) and there are not as many 3 bdrm units...

Yes, there will almost certainly be 2br availability. The only gamble you are taking is regarding the 3br. There are far fewer 3br units. At I-drive Tuscany, if my memory serves me right, there are only 3 buildings with 3br units, and only 10 units per building (end units on floors 2-6), for a total of 30. As long as you can live with possibly having to settle for a 2br then you'll be just fine.

Summer is low season in Orlando

I wish that was true. Summer is the busiest period of the year in Orlando because most families have to plan their visits arouund their children's break from school. We have to go there every July to renew our Universal Studios annual passes and the steamy hot weather combined with long lines and chanting tour groups makes for a miserable day. But we do buy Open Season every time we go and have never been unable to find an available unit at that time of year. The bad news is we only look for 1br units. 3br may be tougher because of families on vacation.

Florida in July really didn't develop into a livable habitat until the invention of AC

I just returned from Parc Soleil.
My stay there confirmed my initial impression that its is a fine property with a better resort ambiance than Seaworld and I-Drive. However, it set smack dab in the middle of what was supposed to be large-scale development ("Midtowne") which never materialized and, from the looks of it, never will -- at least not in the foreseeable future.

Thus, from a distance, the two towers (they planned many more) seem like orphans, all alone in an empty landscape. It's kind' sad.

Yes, I agree. Like vacationing in the desert. The place was surely beautiful, but "cold" looking to the wife and I. We still like the mature look of the Seaworld location with its large trees and established green landscaping. We have stayed at all 3 in Orlando and all are beautifull in their own way. Never had a complaint in 5 years!
