We're new HGVC owners as I round out our TS portfolio. I'm trying to get a sense of how much open season availabilty there is in Orlando during prime time. For example, if I wanted to get a 2BR around Easter Weekend at any of the Orlando resorts, how realistic is that? or any other prime busy time?

Thanks.

During the week I don't think it would be a problem. We picked up an I-drive 2BR for 4 nights between Christmas and New Years one year. But the weekend might be iffy -- I would definitely have plan B in place.

The weekend is what I'm looking for unfortunately. However, I do have a couple hotel units booked at a good price so I can look last minute.

I was able to put on unit on hold at another resort on an RCI but I don't think I'll keep it because the TPUS are still too high if I'm only going to use part of the week. That's why I'm considering open season as an option

Orlando is over-built with TS and other resorts, and HGVC always seems to have plenty of O/S units available, so I expect that, even over a weekend, you'll be able find something suitable between the three HGVC properties... provided you start looking at 30-days out and don't tarry too long.

Having booked hotel rooms that you can cancel w/o penalty is a good strategy.

Easter is also iffy. As that is one of the highest demand times in Orlando. Holidays are the hardest. Now that doesn't mean that it is impossible, but as you and others have suggested, have a back up plan.

I also own at Wyndham, and they have NO availability at Bonnet Creek, but do have some at the other properties.

I am just reporting back that I was able to get the open season reservation for Easter weekend in a 2BR. My first HGVC booking as a new owner. Definitely liking this. Booked 2 nights that were available so no one else got them and then called in to have the guide add a third night.

Good job, djyamyam. We have never had a problem booking Open season in Orlando or Vegas. You didn't say which resort you ended up at but they are all top notch.
