Searched but couldn't find an answer. Hopefully I didn't overlook it...

Has anyone booked open season at an eligible Hilton (HGVC) resort and have it trigger the AMEX Resort fee credit? I need to burn some credits this month and live within a few hours of a couple. Hoping to book a few weekend getaways.

I assume you mean the Surpass quarterly credit? I am not sure if OS triggers it but worth a try. If it doesn't, you can buy a $50 Hilton gift card and it does.

Yes for the credit from the Aspire card, have not tried using the Surpass, but I would assume they work the same.

The Aspire, I would use for MFs. It is $200 each half year. We pay$200 before Jan 1st and $200 after. Surpass is $50/quarter so you can use Q1 and Q4 toward MFs but then Q2 and Q3 for spending at properties or Hilton gift cards

The Aspire half year credit doesn't trigger for me via MF's . I own at Trump and DC if that makes a difference. The gift card option is interesting. I've never heard of that.

Interesting that it doesn't work at either. You might need to buy a cheap Blvd to use your credits on..:)

I know that that resort credit doesn't trigger at W. 57th, so it may be that this issue is endemic to bHC properties like this, DC and others. Trump is not bHC, so not sure about why that doesn't work.

Cheers.

It doesn’t trigger for Lagoon maintenance fees either.

That's what I would normally do, but I used to have a tiny deed and one year I ran out of MF to pay.

It was for a Waikoloa OS booking that triggered the credit if that matters, not sure about other resorts. I think the gift card option is something people started doing when the Surpass began to offer a quarterly $50 credit on eligible Hilton purchase (vs. the credit for participating resort from the Aspire), so I don't think buying gift card will trigger the Aspire credit.

Lagoon MFs qualify for the Aspire Resort credit because it's in HHV...but it doesn't trigger. Thanks to the advice of other TUGgers, I expected I would have to call and I did.

Did the call work?

Good question. Since using this resort credit for MFs is, basically, a scam, I'd think that calling would be risky.

Cheers.

Hey, it is their system...

We called about the 14x at Craig for MFs and they fixed it

Oh, the 14X should qualify, so I get that. using a Resort Credit for MFs is not really as intended and exploits a loophole. Not sure I'd want to bring attention to that.

Cheers.

Did the call work?
Yes, both for the Dec 23 and Jan 24 MF payments. The first one I waited 6 weeks and it appeared the next day, the second the CSR wanted me to wait longer and I called back at 8 weeks. I suppose I could have immediately HUCA'd, but it's not as if I cared.

I think the system just isn't very good for this. I have heard from folks who stayed at Hilton resorts, not HGVC, and didn't get it or the 14x.... And they were on the list. I think they contacted Amex and it was resolved but the point is that the system is crappy

Closing the loop on this question. Went ahead and booked Elara via open season rates. Room was great as usual. $200 resort credit was posted to my account within the week! Thanks everyone!

There have been reports of booking Vegas resort cancellable reservations which require a deposit upfront (not-prepaid rate). Later cancelled and the credit applied. The resort was Tropicana which is not Hilton anymore. But there are other resorts such as Elara that are requiring cash deposit upfront on reservations. I have not tried this but will try OS since that we now have a DP. YMMV. Check out Flyertalk.

I have not had good experiences with using Hilton Gift Cards for paying MF. Avoid.
