I think this is a first. While looking for availability of open season for Las Vegas, I see that for the Lagoon tower, there's 1-bedroom available for the next 30 days. In addition, the Grand Waikikian has both 1 and 2-bedrooms for the next 30 days. If only my wife doesn't object to taking the kids out of school for a week! It's a shame since I really want to stay at the Grand Waikikian but I already used up almost all of next year's point for our Waikoloa trip this coming Summer:D

Between the current economic situation coupled with the opening of both Kingsland and Grand Waikikian there is more inventory and less demand.

Windfall for the open season usage folks.

HGVC Availability

When we were there innearly Dec the occupancy rate was down 47% in the HHV. I could easly count the people on the beach.

crowds

At Christmas, the Hilton Waikoloa Resort was deserted! I've been there when it is more like Disneyland - crowds everywhere. It was quite amazing - seemed like we had the resort to ourselves. We stayed at HGVC, and it seemed fairly full. One of the employees said the HGVC occupancy was pretty normal, but people were not spending much money on extras.

Unfortunately, this is one of those "be careful of what you wish for" scenario!

I was at Kinglands for New Year using open season. It is really quiet. Restaurant at the hotel is half empty on New Year Eve.

Does the new open season availability surplus affect all the resorts in HGVC?

I have been watching Valdoro closely this year, and it seems like there is less Open Season availability this year than in other years.

If I recall there was a big party at the Hilton Waikoloa Resort with the B-52's. I wonder if there was a crowd there for the party? Sounded like fun....

B-52 was there for New Year Eve. We were at the restaurant in Hilton and it wasn't busy. I was very surprise that it is only 25% occupy. We were there from 5:30am - 7:30pm.

Yes, we were also surprised. We had problems getting to Kona on time (that is what happens when you get stuck in the Seattle snowstorm), so needed to change our xmas eve dinner reservation from 7pm to 8:30pm. I was worried they would be full... no need to worry, Donatoni's was able to change our reservation with no problem (and it was obvious we did not even need a reservation).
