Which do you recommend after an early August cruise: one week-Vancouver/Whistler/other areas or road trip to Calgary. We've been to Banff, eastern side of Vancouver Island/Victoria, and Whistler.
If we stayed in Vancouver area (to fly out of YVR) we'd go hiking in Whistler and then drive around to other areas (?). If a one week road trip Vacounver to Calgary, we'd hit as many scenic hot spots as we can (many online maps/articles), but we'd be driving for point to point almost every day. Which would you choose? We plan to spend a few day in Vancouver pre-cruise.

Maybe visit the Okanagan area. Lots of wineries, kettle valley railroad trestles (you can rent bikes) lovely beaches (it will be hot) there is a cool canal float in Penticton then spend the rest of the day at Skaha beach. If that doesn’t fill the full week you can always go back to the Banff area. We spend a week in Kelowna every summer and never get bored.

It's really hot in the non-coastal areas in August. You could head into Washington and check out the San Juan Islands or the Mt Baker Hwy into the North Cascades. Birch Bay is kind of cool in that the tide goes out a long way creating many tide pools. I like the fresh ocean scents in the flats. You could probably get a condo in Blaine or Lynden to do this.
