We are going to Sun Palace Cancun late Feb. I am sure we may feel bored with the AI so hubby asked me to see what you would recommend for one special dinner out in Cancun. We like seafood, Mexican and beef (but not expecting much in the beef dept.) We love PV but this is our first time to Cancun- we will not have a car and plan to use busses. Place can be upscale or more earthy- just hoping for wonderful food and good atmosphere. Feel free to suggest a good lunch or breakfast spot too! TIA

My best suggestion for a good but inexpensive lunch combined with "home" atmosphere is .....go viisit Cancun WALL-MART ! Beats Sun Palace ALL-inclusive any day !:whoopie:

Lobster Dinner Cruise In Cancun

We tried the Sunset Dinner Cruise on the Columbus a couple of years ago and enjoyed it. It was a steak or steak and lobster dinner, open bar and a saxophone player. Food was very good, great saxophone player and all the drinks you want. Not rushed at all and very romantic. Here is the link to their website:

Most of the restaurants on the hotel strip in Cancun are busy, and somewhat noisy, so we usually avoid them and head downtown. Every year for the last 20 years or so, we venture into Cancun city to the La Habichuela on calle Margaritas. The locals go there for lunch, and the tourist for supper. They serve Caribbean and Mexican fair. Not to be missed. You can take the R-1 bus to Tulum Ave. cross the street to your left and walk thru the Park of the Palapas to get there. For a Mexican lunch around 1:30 or so go to Casa Rolandi (downtown or in the Plaza Caracol Mall) or for a special crazy afternoon go to Market 28 and eat fish. You also may enjoy La Parrella, or Pericos, which are both downtown..there are many others, of course, but, my friends have sworn me to secrecy, especially in February.

No such thing as one; the choices are endless. For atmosphere & food in Cancun eat at La Habichuela (Seafood, Mayan,MX), don't give up on steaks the Argentinian steak houses are fantastic, Harry's and Puerto Madero, almost next to each other middle of Hotel Zone; great touristy spot La Destileria (hey we're Cancun tourists, we just go with it).

Breakfast buffet, any of the nice resorts. Lunches, we go for the view so we eat on the water at our resorts, hard to beat. For local seafood try a fish Tik n Chik -- whole fish prepared with annatto paste. The best I had was on Isla Contoy, a national park island, it was fresh grilled during a tour.

La Habichuela! Wonderful food, great service and ambience. If the weather is nice, sit in the outdoor courtyard. You won't be sorry. :D

One Must-do dinner in Cancun

If you want to eat at lunch time, a really nice place is El Cejas in Mercado 28... with marimbas and small groups of musicians competing with each other to sing... and great food at a good price in a very typical Mexican seafood restaurant.

Or... for dinner... if you want excellent beef and seafood, the best restaurant in the hotel zone in my opinion is Puerto Madero, on the lagoon side, close to the Royal Sands... Reservations required (or you won't get in... it's packed... the best restaurants are always packed...)

I used to like La Habichuela a lot for dinner... they have good food, but the atmosphere is all wrong... they don't have the right music for a good Mexican restaurant. There are some really very good Mexican restaurants with live mariachis playing on Yaxchilan avenue, in downtown CanCun...

And... I like La Palapa Belga, in the residential area near the Pok ta Pok Golf Club... (a taxi driver will know how to get to it...) This is a really small, really nice restaurant with a different view of the lagoon.

I always think Pericos is a must do in Cancun. It is in downtown Cancun. Just get a Taxi driver to take you there. The bar stools are saddles, they have the Mariachis and guys pouring flaming drinks down piled up champagne glasses, a fun night for anyone.

Have you considered the idea of spending the $ on a mom and pop hotel in Playa del Carmen and wasting one of your nights at Palace? That way you can take the bus to PDC and spend two days and an overnight in a much more vibrant town than Cancun. Plus you'll get to dine free and hang out at the Playacar Palace, which has a *very good* kitchen. Plus you can take the ferry over to Cozumel to hang out and snorkel off the Coz Palace property. At Coz Palace I recommend their buffets and grill, and not so much the sit-down restaurants (really didn't like their Asian concepts).

Whatever you decide to do...have fun!

Carol- that is a real possibility. In fact! , have been checking out little hotels but, then I was thinking that if they want us to take a tour I will ask for a night at Playacar or Aventura (which has a gazillion rooms and will likely not be full) maybe? See if they let us stay a night for touring and taking the sales pitch. If they are desperate they just may go for it.

Hi Blondie,

I'm looking forward to going over to Isla and having lunch at Playa Tiburon. They serve a huge fish, cooked over an open fire with if I remember right beans and rice. It was the best fish we had last visit. I want to get the seasoning as last time when we left we ran into a couple with a bag of it that they purchased while they were there. Then you can go pet the shark. We are also going late Feb. I am enjoying this thread as we are not at an all-inclusive and look forward to going out each evening to taste the local fare.

Is that the fish that is the size of a restaurant serving tray? It is wonderful!!!

That's it-The bigger your group the bigger the fish. We wern't even looking to eat, we just were wandering along the beach. Once we saw the fish cooking and being served up we couldn't help but try it out. As my husband would say "it's out of this world".:D

We are staying at Imperial Fiesta Club at Casa Maya. It is across from the HUGE Mexican Flag. We will be arriving on the 28th. I guess that is really late February. It is on the elbow end of Cancun, I'd love to get together for a drink, if its not to early for me or to late for you!!

Ah- guessing that we will be winding down and packing up by then. We are way at the other end of the 7 according to the map I just viewed. Send me a PM with your names, etc and if we get up that way we will call your room and/or leave a message! Blondie

We took the "Romantic Sunset Dinner Cruise". The food was excellent. The view was great and there were lots of romantic couples. There were several proposals made public during the cruise as well.

Restaurants must see

I love the Argentinian steak house Cambalanche, I think Pericos is a must see if you are visiting Cancun but the food is so-so.
If you make it down to Playa del Carmen, you should check out Yaxche which is authentic regional Yucatan food.
For breakfast buffet I've always liked Captain' Cove.
