My wife and I attended a time share presentation at Kauai Lagoons two years ago
and signed up for their encore package to revisit.. Last year, we ended up buyin at Maui
Ocean Club. They wouldn't apply the money we paid for our KL encore as it was a different resort.. When we called Marriott, they said we had to attend encore presentation or forfeit the amount paid... My question is, how can I make sure the money we deposited for encore goes to our principal on our marriott maui purchase??

Any advice for this rookie??

Mahalo!

I think the intent is that you need to buy while at the encore presentation for any credit to the purchase to be given.

The opposite happened to me. I was at Ko Olina on a promotion and had to do a presentation. We did not buy, but did purchase the $2499 Encore package. About 6 months latter we did decide to purchase from Marriott at Shadow Ridge Enclaves. They applied the $2,499 to our purchase at SR.

We still used the encore week at Ko Olina and had to do the presentation. Since we had purchased 6 months earlier, the presentation was very short.

I would check with Marriott customer service as to why the encore package price was not applied to your purchase. If you have already signed, and are not in your time frame to recind, you may be out of luck.

I am very surprised that anyone was able to apply the encore cost to a different resort from where the encore package was purchased. I don't think that was a guaranteed benefit, but probably was something they allowed in order to close a sale they did not think they would otherwise get. We once turned down an encore package because we planned to buy before we could use the package and they told us that we would receive no credit if we did that.
