Now; with the "rap, punk and tooty fruity, etc. bullsh*t"music,, Can u even listen?.... On a good note; there are some great artists out there...... Adele, Jennifer Hudson, Maroon 5, Alecia Keyes, Kem, Jaheim, Charlie Wilson... I'm big on R&B; as u can tell.... Who are "your" faves nowadays? Thx

My favs range all over the board. I still love some of the "oldies", but I'm also appreciating some of the newer talent like Adele, Florence & the Machine, Arcade Fire (mostly thanks to my dds). I even have quite a bit of classical on my MP3.

Folk Music

Sorry, but I'm still stuck in the 60's and still enjoy folk music. I even got our 17 year old grand daughter interested. Some of the advantages of being a folkie are: the concert tickets are cheap, it's easy to get seats really close to the stage, and you can meet them after the concert.

Some of the folk singers I enjoy are: Eliza Gilkyson, John McCutcheon, Bop Ensemble, Mustard's Retreat, Neal & Leandra, and Tracy Grammer.

I'm 46 and still listen to the music I liked 30 years ago plus everything in-between to date. I play guitar and still play all things "heavy metal", new and old. As a matter of fact I'll be in the studio tomorrow playing some old "Iron Maiden" and "Metallica" for a few hours. I keep thinking I'm gonna wake up one day to find I've outgrown my musical taste but it hasn't happened yet. BTW I like all types of music except hip hop/rap. I just prefer the harder stuff...:annoyed:

I don't know what you guys are talking about...I'm 31 and the R&B and 'real' rap of my generation is now considered old folks music...

I think the Beatles and doors are now 'Classical'

:hysterical:

I'm 33 and thought the same thing. I hear some of the stuff they play on 'old school lunch hour' and I'm like, really, that's old school now? :ignore:

There's some guy named Paul McCartney that has a new album out called "Kisses on the Bottom." He has a single from it called "My Valentine" that I can't get out of my head. I wish him success.

After 40+ years of T/S ownership, I am no longer "an owner"
I'm an old fart (born '57) and still living in the 80's musically.

I do enjoy some of the current stuff, but not very much of it. Adele wow'ed me at the Grammy's however. I also like Carrie Underwood (something about bashing up a big ole 4 WD that gets my attention) and Maroon 5.

I'm a fan of Brad Paisley because his lyrics make me LAUGH OUT LOUD! Especially the songs Ticks, On-Line, I'm Gonna Miss Her, stuff like that. He is a RIOT!

I am fifty-twelve, and I have been listening to Country Music since I was in my early thirties. And I still do, mostly.

But it is more than that. I like Bruno Mars (how can you not like that sweet thang?), Adele, Maroon 5, CeeLo Green, Tony Bennett (loved those duets), and the late Whitney Houston and Amy Winehouse. I also like Andrea Boccelli, Eros Ramazotti, Ricky Martin, the late Pavorotti, you get the idea.

Easy listening, if it is from the 60s and 70s, early Rock and Roll (think the 50s, Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, etc), R & B when the groups were King, like The Temps, and the 4 Tops, but also Boyz 2 Men and any Leiber and Stoller music.

Then there is Smooth Jazz (this is what I played softly in the background the last week of Jerrys life. It is very soothing), and some Latino music.

Heck, now that I look at it, I like lots of different kinds of music. I think the reason I like Country best is cause I love ''story songs.''

I tend toward dead white guys. Like Lennon and Harrison. Keith Moon. Elvis. Sinatra. Stevie Ray Vaughn. Beethoven. Some not so dead. Sir Paul. The Boss. Bonnie Raitt. Dylan. Neil Young. Some not so white. Muddy. John Lee Hooker. All these and many many others. Country, and current pop, probably not so much.

Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band.

I am plenty old -- pushing 70.

Recently I found out about Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band & they quickly became a favorite around here.

Those guys are good. Check'm out. If you're into big band jazz, you're bound to like'm.

Admittedly I'm a spring chicken compared to you (I was born in 1951), but here's a smattering of my favorite artists who are young enough to be my children (and not repeating any of yours):

- Abigail Washburn
- Calexico
- Ozomatli
- Lizz Wright (based on your tastes you absolutely need to check her out)
- Laverne Butler (Ibid)
- Jill Scott
- KT Tunstall
- Lisa McCormick
- Neko Case
- India.Arie
- Eilen Jewell
- Erin McKeown
- Ollabelle
- Rodrigo y Gabriela (their version of Stairway to Heaven makes Jeff Beck sound like an amateur)
- Corinne Bailey Rae
- Hope Waits (fantastic)

If you're not already acquainted, I suspect you would really enjoy Lavay Smith and her Red Hot Skillet Lickers.
