My brother is in Asheville - he has not had power or running water since Helene. At least he is high up in the mountains, so flooding didn't affect his home.

He is a prepper and has 55 gallons of water in reserve as well plenty of dry food, but he is the oldest and in his early 70s - harder to deal with this stuff when you age - I think he is depressed about it.

At least his Husband is with him - he still works as a Dentist in St Petersburg (They lived in Florida for 40+ years) 2 weeks out of every month, but he came up to Asheville to get away from Helene (Ironic?).

Been to Asheville after a previous hurricane system passed through. I think you are smart to have a 3 day supply of provisions on hand, but I grew up in the Midwest where we had blizzards and could be snowed in for a few days.

We are in a place where power is relatively stable, but this May, we did have a windstorm come through that knocked out our power for 12 hours. Fortunately, we were down in Galveston and the refrigerator was fairly cleaned out.

Just to put this perspective.... I was texting my Brother earlier. My BIL's apartment in St Petes - which is on the beach - was completely destroyed. It is a 100% loss. Thankfully for them - it was a rental - but their rental insurance doesn't cover flood - so they are out whatever they had there. Hopefully none of their art was there.

They had a home on the bay in St. Petes - which they sold earlier this year as my Brother no longer wants to live in FL - they are very thankful that they did.

Some additional Information - his apartment was on 'Treasure Island' - the apartment is still standing, but the entire until was filled with water and sewage and mold is already growing on things.
