What are the odds of getting an exchange into any Disney resort, next Dec 27th-Jan 2nd. I am looking for a studio.

Opinions?

Did you see any this year? Did you do a trade test with your units this year?

hi-
I think you would be better off exchanging privately. I see that you own WSJ. I bet you could find a DVC owner who would love to go there- (BTW, I am also a DVC owner and I was in a similar situation. I wanted to go to Harborside, in the summer, and I knew the chances of getting the echange thru II was slim to none, so I exchanged privately- (and saved the $$ it would have cost for the xchange fee!). Either that, or rent out your WSJ unit and use the $$ to rent from a DVC owner thru disboards. Just my .o2 Janis

I do a lot of direct trades now with my Harborside and St John weeks. I also own DVC-SSR and AKV. I have an extra week deposited with II (a studio), and we go to WDW for NYE the past 4 years, next year will be 5. Plus, next year we are planning on a large group going, maybe 20 people.

Seems like I've seen the week before turn up in exchange, but not NYE week. May as well put in the request if you've got the week sitting around, but I'd have a back-up plan.

I have enough points for next NYE, about 900 without borrowing any. I put a request in, so we'll see where things fall in the next 6-8 months!

tomandrobin-

I got an exchange for the week before but I have not seen New Years week online ever. That doesn't mean an ongoing search hasn't grabbed one for someone and we just don't know about it. We only see the leftovers online.

Hey Tom!:hi:

I saw an OKW studio for 12/20 sometime earlier this year. I think Icydog or Cindy saw an Easter studio(SSR or OKW) earlier this year.

I think every so often DVC throws II a studio in a prime week at WDW. I think DVC can only deposit so many HHI Jan/Feb weeks.

With the way things are going, who knows what we'll find in II for anywhere.

I think odds are really slim. The only way I see it happening is if you do an ongoing search and your week grabs it before it goes on the general II website for everyone to see. And hopefully you are flexible as to which DVC resort people can stay at. I have a week 52 Falls fixed week that will be remodeled by next year too so let me know if I can help you out somehow. Otherwise, I think week 52 is the highest demand week of the year so it could be tough.

I am thinking I have about a 50/50 chance of getting the week. Especially since I included all of the resorts.

It is the busiest week at WDW, and the highest point cost. All those SSR points floating out there, I am hoping some come my way.

We're also looking to exchange into Disney next year and have an ongoing search for any resort, 2BR, either of the last two weeks of October. We're using a 3BR for the trade, so we'll accept a Marriott 3BR if Disney doesn't come through. II called yesterday with a 3BR at Imperial Palms but I think we'll hold out a little longer. Am I right in thinking that Disney units are only now coming on line for next October, with the 11-month booking period?

We've been lucky so far with trades and if this one doesn't work out it's no big deal, we'll figure out something else. Several years ago we rented DVC points at the disboards and I'd go that route again anytime.

For future reference, where do you all have success with exchanging privately and what kind of time frame works best for that?

thanks,
Susan

You are correct that the 11 month window just opened for next October. Yuo wanted the last two weeks, those can not be reserved yet. So far, I have found the the II exchanges start happening closer to the 8-9 month mark. October is a slow time, not the slowest, but slow enough that your odds of a match are pretty good. And like you said, there are plenty of other Orlando resorts that will be available.

All of my direct exchanges have been made through contacts on the boards, like DisBoard, MouseOwners and Tug. You just have to find the right audience and contacts.

it will be - II has codes for it.

They won't release any inventory to II until the resort is complete. I know that Kidani Village opens next May, but that is only the one side. Hopefully the other half will be done in the fall and deposits will start showing up in II.

through the building completion date was before BLT opens.

since BLT is scheduled to open in Sept, 2009 - though AKV was a little before this.

Kidani Village - May
THV - June/July
BLT - Sept

But I did not think all of Kidani Village was opening at once. When I go at Christmas time, I am going to ask. I am going to tour the BLT model and check more into THV amenities too.

Well thanks, tomandrobin, that sounds encouraging for my trade.

Here on TUG, in the classifieds some where? I'll look around. Is there a faq to help someone like me who doesn't even know where to begin with direct exchanges? For instance, I don't even know if a reservation is made before or after finding a contact!

Go to the Tug Marketplace. You can find the link at the top of the page. Yuo can also advertise direct exchanges on redweek and mouseowners.

That is a very easy trade. I've gotten 2BRs at Saratoga Springs (last year) and Old Key West (this year) for the second to last week of October, both pulled with ACs. If that's what you want then hold out for one - they may take a while to be released but they will be there.

Well

I would try it. With the economy being shaky some people who own Disney but travel far away may choose to go somewhere closer. I would try it wth a plan B like Marriott or Hilton if it does not come through by a certain time.
