We will be going to Ocean Point. Our checkin is two weeks out, so time for room request. We are booked in to a ocean side studio. I am thinking these are lower floors. I know we probably don't want to be in the Kingfish building. Where is the best place to request? Does it matter?

Studio units are on every floor. Loction is just a matter of preference. For me, if I was to just stay in a studio unit building wouldn't be nearly as important as asking for a high floor anywhere.

My specific view on my reservation shows ocean side. While I know they have studios on every floor, I am sure the higher floors are designated ocean view and ocean front?

Oceanside @ OP is "oceanview". There are 2 designations @ OP: Oceanside and Oceanfront. "Oceanfront" faces directly East (The Atlantic Ocean) in each of the 5 buildings: from North to South: Sailfish, Dolphin, Cobia, Pompano & Kingfish. In addition, the South side of Kingfish facing the inlet has also been designated "oceanfront" by Marriott. So, if you end up in Kingfish you will get the North "oceanside" view. In any of the other 4 buildings you will get either the north side or the south side of the building. So, just ask for a "high floor" and you shd be ok. Even a lower floor shd be ok.
"Studios" @ OP are the Lock-offs & the designation "studio" or "lock off" does not determine the view.

Have a great trip! Have you seen Barry's( JerseyFinn's..sp?) recent photos of OP posted here today or yesterday? Take a look to "get you in the mood"!!

The higher floors are not designated ocean front just because they are on a higher floor. Any studio unit that faces north or south, no matter what floor they are on, is considered ocean side. There are 2 studio units per floor in buildings 1 through 4 that are ocean front. All the rest are ocean side.

Here is a picture of the layout of buildings 1 through 4. You can clearly see the two ocean front studio's. All the rest are ocean side. It doesn't matter if it's a high or low floor.

I notice that there is also a pre-arrival form on the vacationclub.com website for Ocean Point under the Owners tab for the resort. I thought this may be a place to put in a room request. Though after looking at it, I din't undertand the point of it. It requests information that the resort should already have on the reservation.
I will just call the resort Monday to request a high floor is possible in one of the first two buildings.

When we put in our request at OP I called and left a message with my requests. Then I found the prearrival form online and made a request through that. I was very pleasantly surprised to receive responses to both forms of my request. It may be worth it to fill out the prearrival form.

We actually wanted the Kingfish building because it had its own pool with zero entry and because it was said to be quieter and less busy. We found that to be very true. We requested a high floor and received a unit on the top floor of the building. We were placed on the south side of the building. The water view was amazing. We were all the way at the back of the building, but with that view I can't complain.

I've always been able to request high or low floor and list three buildings in order of preference in which we'd like to stay. Unless you want to request a specifc room, I don't how much better they coud make the pre-arrival form. I beleive the form also asks your approx. arrival time to help staff get rooms clean in the order that guests should be arriving. For that matter there is a section where you can type in anything additional you might want to add. It seems like a pretty decent form to me.

The pre-arrival form that I can link to through vacationclub.com only has the following fields:

*First Name:
*Last Name:
*Arrival Date:
*Departure Date:
*Confirmation Number:
Marriott Rewards Number:

There is no section to enter time of arrival and no section to input room assignment requests? Am I missing something? Is there a second page? Perhaps it is a different form for Ocean Pointe owners?

It's been several months since we filled out the prearrival form for OP, but I'm guessing once you enter your dates of stay, confirmation #, etc. and hit submit it will take you to the request page. As the previous poster stated, it gave us the option of giving 3 building choices, high/low floor, crib and high chair requests and such. I think it's worth a try. You could always follow up with a phone call making your requests as well. Hope that helps!

Interesting.

I filled one out a couple of months ago as an exchange guest. Even though I own at OP, I had exchanged my 2008 week for MR points. A 2 bedroom ocean front unit popped up as an exchange (sleeps 6 privately 6 maximum vs ocean side with sleeps 6 privately 8 maximum) so we jumped on it rather than waiting for the Key West exchange we had requested. I noticed I could still fill out the pre-arrival form a few months ago, I filled it out. It allowed me to request high/low floor, three building choices in order of preference and a section for addtional comments/requests.

I wonder if they've changed the form. If so, it sounds as if the new form isn't worth much. I won't be able to find out for another couple of months as we don't plan on reserving our 2009 week until December. If it's changed to a very generic form I'll be dissapointed and it will probably lead to more calls to the resort for room requests.

Dioxide,

OP will be pretty full, so it's a hard call as to what you can expect to receive. Requests are filled hierarchially with OP owners receiving highest priority, then traders, and then Marriott.com folks. I see that you own at Grand Vista . . . did you use the Florida Club option for this trade? I'm not sure how Marriott would rank an owner coming in via Florida Club ( owner vs. trader ). In any case you would trump the Marriott.com folks who most likely get assigned to the 1st or 2nd floor no matter what given the resort's high occupancey rate. It's worth filling out the form and trying to be flexible building wise if you want a higher floor.

Have a nice trip.

Barry
