We'll be going to Ocean Pointe this summer for a couple of weeks. I was wondering if the Pizza Hut by the pool is still there? I vaguely remember reading that it's no longer there.

Hello, OPMan!:
Pizza Hut was there in early March, 2012.(a few weeks ago). But, I must say, not as good as it used to be. Kind of doughy & the sauce has changed. No flavor. The cheese was kind of weird too.
The entire menu has changed. You can't even get a ham & cheese on rye anymore! We did not like the sandwich menu at all. It's all wraps & stuff like that. And, the people working there were really grumpy. And, it took forever to get our food the couple of times we did order.

If you have the time, you may be better off ordering from a local pizza delivery place. Sorry I cannot recommend one but perhaps somebody here can. Actually, now that I think about it, it will probably take less time than to order from OP Pizza Hut!! When we called from our villa & ordered our pizza, she told us it would take 20 minutes. We walked over in 20 minutes and she looked up and said "Not ready. Just about to go in the oven".

Lucky you... going to OP in the Summer! We love OP!
If you have any questions, you can PM me if you like.

When we were there last October it was closed, inquiries here led us to learn that it was a seasonal thing. This was something we hadn't run in to on any of our visits there. Perhaps they just changed to seasonal operation recently?

We have always had good pizzas there, never tried anything else though.

It's still there, but Smooth Air pretty much hit the nail on the head.
I bought nachos (for the beach) and it took longer than it should have (especially when everything is pre-packaged).
I don't know if this is a concession or Marriott personnel, but it could be soooo convenient if it were run correctly.

Ironweed/Kramer:
Have you spoken w/ Mark Promoff? Mark is the food & beverage Manager @ OP.
We need to let Mark know that "It ain't what it used to be". Not only was the Pizza Hut/sandwich place bad but The Marketplace was not as good as it used to be. Grumpy people...especially Amanda...Whoa!...did you have the pleasure of dealing with Amanda? Big mix up about our daily Palm Beach Post which I have always reserved for the week or 2 weeks as soon as I arrrive. She just could not get it straight. And, she was very unpleasant. Mark should know about these things.

I see that you are an OP Owner. As an OP Owner, I am very interested in your comments.
Perhaps the best way for me to do this is to PM you. I will do that.

Safe trip back on Sunday.

My comments were relegated to the Pizza Hut only.
My experience with the market place and particularly Amanda have always been courteous and polite, even under stress (like when the newspaper guy is 45 minutes late on a Sunday). She's to be always pleasant and very helpful to me.
Sometimes we all have a bad day.
Mike

Well, Mike, Amanda had more than one bad day!! I am sorry, but she should not take it out on her customers!
When I went in to reserve our paper for the week she said "If you are not here by 10:00AM, the paper goes back out!". I said that often we do not pick up our paper until later than 10:00. In the past, this has never been an issue. I said that I would even pay for the paper in advance so that she could be assured that we would be picking it up. She said "If you are going to be later than 10:00 you have to call us to advise."
So, every, single morning I called, usually around 8:00AM, to advise that we would be picking up the paper after 10:00. Every, single day there was some issue. On the last day when I went in to pick up the paper, Amanda snapped: "You are supposed to be here at 10:00! It's 10:30!!! You have to call if you are going to be late. We already put the paper back out. " I said "I DID call you...at 8:00 this morning.... to advise that we would be in after 10:00". She said "Oh, yeah...well...there's still one here so you can have it."

Mike...maybe there are two people named Amamda who work at The Ocean Pointe Marketplace!

Hate to hear that, we always thought it was about as good as one can get with Pizza Hut. I think with the location of Ocean Pointe they could do very well with good tasting food as far as the bottom line goes.

Smooth,
Just called it the way I saw it for the last 3 weeks.
Doubt if there are two Amandas....but I'm sorry that it worked out the way it did for you.
I'm here for 3 more weeks....so I'll just keep doing my thing and if I see any grouchyness...I'll mention it here.
I'm in the MP for the Wednesday, Sat & Sunday paper only. Really need nothing else there. Just wish the PH was as good as it was a few years ago.
Mike

Mike,
Lucky you @ OP for 3 more weeks! I am sooooooo jealous! How's the weather?
Which building are you in?

I know what you mean about PH. Wonder what is going on there. Have you spoken with Mark Promoff, the Food & Bev manager? I am sure Mark would like to hear your comments.

How is the beach these days?

Enjoy!

Smooth,
Been here in the Sailfish on the 6th floor (in a L/O for 3 weeks). We're now in the 1 BR (for another 3 weeks) and life is pretty good. Weather has been beautiful, but breezy at the beach.
The resort is in good shape and I have really had no problems. I have not actively sought out Mark, however if I were to run into him I might inquire as to the future of the PH.
I'm glad its still there, especially for those that enjoy it. I really don't think that it's any one person in there, its probably an economic issue with whoever runs it. They seem to be short on staff and by the looks of the interior, their inventory seems to be low.
Again, its rare that I use it, (unless grandkids are here)....so I'm electing to worry about my putting, chipping and driving rather than nachos.
Hate to rub it in....but the beach looks gorgeous today so I'm off to drop a couple chairs and set my umbrella.
Stay well,
Mike:)

Mike,
Aaaaaaah........Good idea to BYOU. I hate the way the beach chair concession guys pack up everything @ 5:00PM......nicest time of day to be on the beach @ OP.

Where do you "putt, chip & drive?" Abaco? Or, Where?

Did you get a chance to watch any of The Bay Hill yesterday? Did you go to The Honda Classic Mar 4 or Doral the following week? We arrived on March 4 & were at Publix when The Honda was finishing up. Next time we will plan things better so that we can attend.

6th floor Sailfish...sweet! North or South?

It seems Pizza Hut in general has changed their recipe's and the result is exactly as the OP said. Doughy, tasteless and no longer worth buying. I too would recommend looking for other brands. Usually there are a few locally based pizza place that have great ratings that are far better than any national "name" brands tend to be. I'd try to find one or two of those.

Pizza Hut has never been considered pizza by New Yorkers. Never was never will be. There is however one great pizza place in Palm beach that I know to be very good. Hot Pie Pizza,123 South Olive Avenue, West Palm Beach, FL 33401-5504, United States +1 561-655-2511. It's owned and run by a guy from the Bronx. He gets his water from NY. With bagels and pizza if you don't start out with NY water the dough is just never going to taste right. The pizza here is very near the best I've ever tried.

How's the shoulder? ;)

Sorry Smooth
I just tried to post a lengthy reply to a number of positive things... and hit "a wrong button"..... and lost it all.
Catch up another time.

I absolutely love Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza. The wings are great, too.

If that's the same one that's also in Miami & Orlando, and other areas, then it is one of the best "southern" pizzas around. Can't match a true New York pie but it's darn close.

(Just checked - it appears to be the same one. Try it!)

Do you know if Anthony's & Hot Pie deliver to OP? You are making me hungry!!

Too bad Mike... I hate when that happens. Looking forward to your post when you take a break from the beach!!

Yes. I had it first in Weston, Fl in 2008 when visiting my daughter and obsessed about that pizza for years until we found the one up the road from Oceana Palms in November and it was still great. The pepperoni is so crisp, it's like bacon. They have a couple restaurants in the Philly and NJ area but I never get there. Most are found in Florida.
