Loved Crystal Shores this Jan despite unusually cold weather (but hey it was sunny so who cares?). Pools heated. Stunning sunsets. We were in Egret 10th floor looking directly at beach - I would have said pretty much ocean front - those balconies are fabulous, I was so happy sitting out just looking at the view.
Friends from Tampa came to stay for the second weekend plus an old UK friend just happened to be coming to Marco Island on our first Monday so we were re-united at Tiger Tail Beach and went for a very long walk - just heavenly around there.

So we decided next Jan we're going to fly to Tampa, stay 2 nights with our friends then drive to Ocean Pointe where I've booked 12 nights. But have read so many mixed reviews of this resort and know the rooms aren't so modern as Crystal Shores. I like the sound of the Kingfisher building despite it being separate from the other buildings (quiet is good for us). Have read reports of rooms in this building not being so good as rest ?? is this true. When was OP last refurbished?

Thanks in advance.

Can't provide you with the exact last date of refurbishment but I can tell you that units in the Kingfish Building are similar to the other four buildings. The only noticeable difference is that the Kingfish Villas themselves are just a bit smaller than the others and the hallways in the Kingfish are exterior style hallways.

Ocean Pointe has a nice footprint but the construction and layout isn't nearly as nice as Crystal Shores or Oceana Palms.

We stayed at OP, October 2019. I am sure the Kingfish villas were being updated while we were there.

I would ask for a south-facing view, the higher floor the better. We had a 5th floor unit in the Pompano building, which is high enough to see over the adjacent condo unit and the Kingfish building and get a kinda, sorta full ocean view (and the channel with the cruise ships) from an ocean side unit. In January you'll get sun all day on the balconies and and the big window wall in the LR. South-facing in Kingfish is ocean front designation, so that'll cost more points.

You can see the ocean from all of the non- Kingfish units as the buildings are kind of V- shaped.

The view I would NOT want is north-facing Kingfish or south-facing low floor Pompono looking at the ugly condo building.

We really enjoyed our stay there last June and are going back again this June on an II trade (so we'll probably get said lousy view
