My wife and I stayed at Ocean Grande on business two weeks ago and loved it. It's easy to find Silver weeks to purchase for almost nothing on eBay where usage floats during weeks: 5-12, 44-48, 51, 52.

Would it be possible to trade such a week internally to more desirable gold weeks?

Also, does buying Ocean Front guarantee a more desirable ocean view, rather than ocean side?

I assume you mean Grand Ocean on Hilton Head Island. I happen to own one of those worthless Silver weeks. I have been trading it for SurfWatch weeks 51 & 52 the last few years. Usually gets a three bedroom. MGO is a desireable timeshare no matter what time of year you go there. If you have no interest in going there during Silver season then I would not buy there.

The mantra here on TUG is to buy what you'll use and forget about the trading aspect. Of course it helps if the unit is a stronger trader but a lot of other things go into trading such as timing, seasonality, location, views, etc.

And for your other question....

Buying Oceanfront at MGO guarantees that you will always have accommodations in a unit that faces the ocean when occupying your own week. However, many Oceanfront units on some of the lower floors have ocean views blocked or partially blocked by growth of bushes and trees, pruning of which is severely restricted by the town of Hilton Head. Thus, MGO has instituted a policy that if you request and get a high floor with a good view one year, you might not get it the next year so that those views can be parceled out to all Oceanfront owners on a rotating basis.

Exchanges back into MGO (e.g., from Silver to Gold season) usually don't get an Oceanfront unit even if you own Oceanfront.

Another Question

Thank you. Week 45 seemed really great so Silver season would be fine with us. We have owned Worldmark points for a long time, but Marriott is new to us.

I have another question If we tried to move from one season to another, despite Silver being just fine, would the exchange be internal (without cost) or would we need to pay Interval's exchange fee?

You would have to go through your II account and pay the exchange fee.
