does anyone ever obsess over a vacation? I am so excited about my upcoming trip in less than a month that I have ordered brochures, looked on line for info, checked with Trip Advisor , asked questions?? check to see if they've been answered lol .

I got out of this habit for a long time but this time I catch myself doing it again. I have everything booked , routed, hotels picked out as well as ts paid, car rental & wheelchair paid for and co ordinated with landing. I am so done checking ( for what I'm checking for I don't know ) My itenerary is set in stone. I have not gone as far as where I'm eating when, what I'm going to do so it's not rigid but has wiggle room.

Sat: Fly into Bozeman , get wheelchair, go thru canyon thru Big Sky to Idaho to Island Park ( called , made sure I have lower room & coming in a day late )

Sun: Island Park is my base where I'll see Idaho & Yellowstone,
Friday leave and go to Red Lodge 1 nite Chateau Lodge
Sat Leave and go to Cody ( staying at Irma ) doing the museums, buffett & music show

Sun: Leave for Yellowstone : Staying at Town Center bottom floor ) touring Grand Teton until Friday when I leave for Bozemen / spend night

Sat: Go home.

Jackson Hole seems expensive for meals so may cook in a few meals.

I will do all mahor attractions in both parks and lots of minor ones too.

It is count down time.

Shaggy, you always make me smile with your enthusiastic attitude for your travels. I just wanted to say thanks for sharing, and have a great trip out here in the Old West!

You'll have a great time. I made a deal with the animals to hang out by the road when you're passing by. Maybe the now-famous Western heat wave will have dissipated by then, just not TOO much.

Thanks guys. I guess I do get excited about my trips. Since I can't travel as much as I once did due to health issues i try to make the most of every trip I do take. I bought a new camera with zoom lens to take with me.

The only meal I have planned is the prime rib buffet in Cody / also the Bill Miller Show Per Jim's suggestion I will have breakfast at Pete's.

Any suggestions are welcome. shaggy

To answer your question -- yes.

We took our granddaughter to Paris this past June. By June of 2014 (1 year in advance), I already had an apartment rented in Paris and a house in the Loire. I bought plane tickets in August 2014, exactly 330 days in advance, the earliest they go on sale. By the beginning of the year, I had all accommodations rented, tickets to the Eiffel Tower (twice), Museum passes, D-Day tours, Monet's house at Giverny - all purchased in advance. I also had detailed day-by-day itineraries and a spreadsheet with a cost estimate.

So yeah, this time through, I think I really, really obsessed.

Enjoy your Yellowstone vacation, Shaggy. I know you will. Just as I know you've enjoyed all the planning, as I did.

I know you'll enjoy your time out in the Wild West.

And I can totally relate to obsessing about a trip, as that's what I'm into right now! :) We have a France riverboat trip coming up fairly soon and now have pretty much all in place, except the packing.

Just make sure you know where you are going to go food shopping. Not easy around these parts. We did our food shopping in Bozeman after we landed at the super Walmart- we brought a collapsible cooler, which was easy to pack in our suitcase -and put the cold stuff in there for the trip to the resort. )We stayed in West Yellowstone, which was 2 hours from there.) If you want to have dinner at the Old Faithful Inn-an awesome experience- call right away and make reservations as soon as you get to your Island Park resort.

Enjoy. One of- if not the best- vacations ever.

You call that obsessing? I call that planning (and an excellent job, too!). When we were young, there were plenty of sleeping in the car episodes when we would vacation and not make reservations--and those were "fun"--and some of our fondest memories are "camping out"- we're older and prefer the safety and security that comes with a well-planned trip. Our motto is: failure to plan is planning to fail. Our time is short and there is so much left to see and do. Sounds to me like you're moving in the right direction! :cheer: Have a great trip and I hope everything works out as you planned!

I think having the wiggle room built in is important. Once you get there your ideas may change and you might want to spend a little more time doing something you thought would take no time at all.

No need to buy groceries in Bozeman. There are 2 perfectly adequate (smallish) supermarkets in West Yellowstone, 22 miles from Island Park. The pickin's are definitely thinner in I.P.- Timbers resort has some of the best equipped kitchens I've come across in a timeshare- slow cookers, trash compacters and all.

Yes- but expensive though and not the selection. I love the slow cookers. We have one in our Vermont timeshare as well. Set it and forget it.

Don't think it's obsessing! You are not alone-I love to plan too. There has been research that says the pre-planning, talking about, and immersing yourself in your vacation brings just as much joy as the actual trip. http://www.nytimes.com/2014/05/11/travel/what-a-great-trip-and-im-not-even-there-yet.html?_r=0

Enjoy! And have a great trip!

I totally agree with this. I miss travelling, but I miss the planning as much or more, as it lasted for a longer time than the actual vacation.

Hoping my son and family's match for WDW in May of '16 comes through soon as that will give me something to do again for the next several months. They just got back from Maui so I am suffering withdrawal.

Have a great time, Leslie.

Nobody obsesses more about a trip than those going to Disney. I've seen spreadsheets, debates over FastPasses and Dining reservations. a miilion packing lists, handmade Mouse ears, decorated Magic bands, designed tshirts, handmade Mousekeeper tip envelopes and there are the costumes or Disney bounding fashions. It's almost like the days of just going to Disney spur of the moment are gone.

One Hour Planning for three week trip.

As we often travel Space Available for free on Military aircraft(If you spend 20+ years in military service) we sometimes go on trips at the last minute and don't know where we will be going. Even after you take off destinations can change. On a trip to Spain a couple years ago we landed at a remote base and it was HOT. We looked at the weather report and the Portugal Coast was much cooler. Went on the internet and booked a week on the Algarve, then a return week in Seville and a week on the Costa Del Sol. All in about an hours time. We had just as much fun on the trip as when we plan months ahead. And costs were lower with free airfare. Next month we will go on another mystery trip when the weather cools down.
Presently I have spent about 40 hours planning a trip to Morocco and Madrid and have it finalized all except the place to stay in Madrid. Everything except meals.tips, drinks, local transportation and entrance fees paid in advance. Three weeks cost for two on the trip itself will be under $2000. One big advantage of paying ahead. Breakfast are included so we just eat one other meal a day and snack a bit.

I live to vacation and love planning, though it is a lot of work. Totally OCD. I find that the more planning you do the more you have the opportunities to do and see more things than most other people. People often ask me how I can find so much to do in 16 years going to our Vermont resort and I tell them- READING! Never run out of new things. And, when we travel elsewhere, same thing- reading and planning and asking questions.

This is no truer anywhere else than it is on a Disney vacation. You can wing it and spend all day in lines, or you can carefully plan and spend only 85% of the day in lines!

You crack me up but I have seen plenty of Dis-anity so I know what you're referring to.

I note your location as Michigan - have you actually done Disney "spur of the moment"? On the planet nearly 50 years and I've never done Disney at all, let alone Hey, Let's Just Go!

We spent an unusual amount of time in Orlando this summer. We went in July to Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios and this month Animal Kingdom and Epcot. I'm learning to not stress myself by overplanning, overthinking a Disney trip. Sure I read Disney blogs and FB pages everyday to enjoy the moment but I don't worry about Be Our Guest anymore. The weather this month was very unpredictable even by Michigan standards. I did take my daughter to Epcot last minute and just picked our FastPasses the night before with no other plans. I would NEVER go without FPs. We happened to be in Orlando for Seaworld camp and visting grandma, but I've never hopped on plane to just drop by Disney. You need to go to Disney. I saw many adults with First Visit buttons. It's easy to trade into Orlando. Start planning now and join the obsession. :)

I worked for a Disney sponsor back, lo- these many years ago. Global Van Lines ran the Lost & Found on Main Street at Disneyland, and our offices were just behind the Matterhorn. We could just pick up a free pass and go to the Park for lunch. That little perk went away about the time they built in Orlando.

i'm just glad I'm not the only one. Jim do you happen to know if there is a laundrymat in Jackson Hole or Island Park. I don't won't to spend my vacation washing clothes. I'd like to leave them and pick them up later.

Also do you think it's dumb to go to both chuckwagon dinners in JH?? Which music is better?? which food is better??

BTW, I did go out today and bought a high speed 32G chip /disc for my camera.
