Ok, I just received this email from Wyndham about deals.
upload_2019-12-19_11-21-57.png

I currently have a 5-night reservation (1/8-13) for my son for 104,500 points paid for a Hotel Romm upgraded to 1BR deluxe.

I could book him 2 nights (1/8-10) for 33,000 points for a hotel room upgraded to 1BR Deluxe.
And save 71,500 points and book the above. That's like the @dgalati wet dream of $3/1000! (Just kidding, bud!;))

What's the catch? And which one is better NewYorker or TRYP?

My son has already stayed at NY45 a couple of times. He might like a change and I love the $change$ in terms of points saved.

Any advice! I just don't want him trapped in something when he has time commitments!

I went ahead and booked 1/8-10 and got him his 1BR Deluxe. I took the precaution of booking it in my name lest they cancel duplicate reservations. I will transfer to his name later when I cancel the 5-night reservations.

Now for the $199 deal? Which one, New Yorker or TRYP? I going to try Google Street View to get a feel for the area.

I guess he can do that. Last time he was there in November he signed up for the presentation and didn't go because he couldn't make time. This time, he can probably make time on Saturday or Sunday.

So, pull the trigger? Which hotel? Google Streetview is not helping me decide. NYC is a not for the faint of heart!

Both are close to 8th Ave and 35th Street. Is that area SAFE? It couldn't be any different from 3rd and 45th? Right?

@Grammarhero, you know New York, please advise! Thanks.

Is it the catch that he is not MARRIED? Are single people eligible? He is an owner on the account and he recently turned 28, so he should be fine.
I will go ahead and book it! I am just waiting for input from TUGggers or my son to clinch this deal!

Going by prices and reviews on Google Maps Both are 4-start and have good reviews. TRYP is more expensive than NewYorker. It has a beautiful terrace. NewYorker has a great location but it's a bit dated.

I should let my son decide but he is unreachable and I don't want to miss this deal.

I am waiting for @Grammarhero to respond. But, maybe, he is avoiding TUG since he thinks Wyndham is gunning for him and has cast his account into Purgatory! Hahaha!:D

Did you notice the verbiage: "The offering Developer reserves the right to substitute lodging or features with one of equal or greater value." that is spelled out in the Terms and Condition? You could end up in a dump as compared to what you might expect the lodging to be. The phrase "Equal or Greater Value" is subjective.

Count on the substitution. It always works out that way. You get what you pay for sometimes?

My son says he doesn't care for Times Square but if it's cheaper to go for it! Sure, I am BOSS and get to do all the work!

I would like to get some input from someone who's familiar with NYC.

This is a special invite to VIPP. Why would they substitute a dump? It's counter-intuitive! They should be trying to get him to buy! Not turn him off!

We are VIPP and went to one of things. It was for Wyndham Clearwater. When we arrived they wanted to put us in a Super 8. I refused those accommodation and asked where on the email and screen shots of the offer I printed and brought with me does it states, substitute accommodations. It didn't, so they ended up putting us up in Wyndham Clearwater on the timeshare side. Because it was the timeshare side parking was free and no lodging taxes. Never again will I signup for one of those things.

Can you believe it, I got sold a $799 6 night stay in Kona just a few months after I had first bought 210k CWA at Maui in July 2016.

I was busy doing my stuff and I get this call from Wyndham marketing!
The deal was a 2BR unit and I get a second 2BR free to bring along ANOTHER couple. Free $150 Amex card and 1 day free at any Wyndham hotel blah blah.
She sweet-talked me, alright! It's valid for a WHOLE year, I could change it to any other location if I wanted or even for a CRUISE from Florida.
And, I can read all about it in the email and I can always RESCIND if I don't like it. Well, the right to rescission got me again!
Ok, let's do this FANTASTIC deal, I will study it the material that comes and I can always change my mind.
After all, it's a great deal if I can split $799 - 150 divided by 2. What fool could say NO to $325 for a whole week in Paradise!;)

So, I do the deal and get back to work. And the rescission period comes and goes. Actually, the whole of 2017 flies by. 210k points deposited in RCI and I actually pay $50 to extend this deal. No other couple to sync their calendar! 2nd 2BR got no takers! So we finally go to Kona in July 2018 by ourselves! Flew to Kona for free using my Hawaiian miles! That was nice!

A beautiful paradise indeed! I loved our stay and the helicopter ride over Kilauea volcano! One of my best vacations!

And I bought Waikiki Beach Walk and 2 PICs and a permanent VIP-P! No regrets!

Kilauea flowing!

Isn't Wyndham Garden Inn close to LGA airport? I put my youngest son there when American canceled his flight to Dallas and he got stuck in NYC. Or is there one in Times Square?

We stayed at all 3. The neighborhood for the Tryp and New Yorker. is fine. We walked around after midnight and felt safe. Just be aware of your surroundings like in any city. The rooms in the Tryp were bigger than New Yorker The New Yorker had character but was dated. We had a family room at the Tryp which was great

I only hope my son doesn't throw a hissy-fit about the 120-minute presentation!

Thanks to all those who helped!

Got 7 days to RESCIND! Hehe! :D

Don’t worry. I have the address in case your son needs to rescind. Ny famous for being vague about rescind instructions.

We've stayed in both, prefer the TRYP. New Yorker just felt older. For free, your son would have no room to complain about either, though. Stay on top of it, make sure the substitution is acceptable if it comes to that.
