Not surprised who got CARES money

The other stimulus thread is so long I have no idea if this was covered. My mom died in Jan. and received the $1,200 in April. The bank said to let it sit. Eventually the government will decide what should be done with it. I'd just as soon return it.

yes, a problem but the government will eventually reclaim it

Sometimes it is very hard to return money to our federal government, after they have may the error IMO.

If it was direct-deposited in, it will be direct-deposited out. Eventually.

After the government began making direct deposits of up to $1,200 into taxpayers' bank accounts this month, many people reported on social media that deceased loved ones were receiving payments as well and wondered what they should do with the money.

"You’re not supposed to keep that payment," Mnuchin told the newspaper. "We’re checking the databases, but there could be a scenario where we missed something, and yes, the heirs should be returning that money."



“We will be issuing guidance on this shortly,” a Treasury Department spokeswoman said.
