Fredflintstone's post about favorite drinks prompted me to ask if anyone has any special nonalcoholic drink recipes. I'd like to make one for a family member who isn't drinking alcohol right now and don't have any good ideas. I've picked up a couple of bottles of carbonated juice..like pomegranate pear and sparkling apple, so could use those as a starting point.

When I waited tables during college at Howard Johnson we used to mix orange sherbet with sprite/7up.

I like a rum punch they serve in the Caribbean, minus the alcohol: the ingredients vary per island/region but I like the pineapple juice. There should be recipes online.

Does anyone still put a punch bowl out at parties? My parents always entertained with one, and when we had children's parties we always had sherbet punch or Hawaiian Punch mixed with ginger ale in our punch bowl. I think my last punch bowl party would have been in our Victorian home because it seemed fitting. By then I had two bowls and tons of cups because Mom had given me hers. Both bowls were sold at our first garage sale in this house in 2011.

For any cold-season event, a simple batch of Wassail...
Apple Cider, OJ, Pineapple Juice, Cinnamon Sticks, Cloves, Brown Sugar.
Simmered for 3-4 hours. Keep it hot in a slow cooker.
Serve with a sprinkle of cinnamon.

I think I've found my drink...the pomegranate mojito from the link Multiz321 posted. Love the red color and it's a not too sweet option.

Funny, I also acquired a punch bowl set because it fit the style of our house. However, I used it probably three times in 25 years. I sold it at our street block garage sale, and wouldn’t you know it, following week my friend asked me to host a bridal party for her daughter because my house was perfect for occasion and I have all right dishes. It was a nice party despite not having a punch bowl. We had a lot of sweet ice tea in the pitcher instead.

If you make mulled wine and bring it to a simmer, with the lid off, it will be non-alcoholic.

Cranberry juice with fizzy sparkling water, dressed with a sprig of mint.

I had a good open house yesterday and the hit was my spiced cider. Recipe is simple....unfiltered cider, cloves, cinnamon stick, slices of ginger. People loved it and then some folks spiked their drink with apple pie moonshine (not illegal) from Tennessee. We had fun.

It's sad, but punch has largely disappeared from big parties partly bc it's so easy to spike. Young people are taught never to accept a drink from a stranger at a party, never to put their drink down and then pick it up and drink again, never to accept a drink poured from a previously opened bottle... unfortunately it can be a dangerous world out there.
