No reward points at MVCI resorts

Just learned something new. It's been a week since my check-out day at Marriott's Mountain Valley Lodge. I got credit for the 7 night stay a couple days after check-out but while I was at the resort I spent $56 on activities for my son. No reward points showed-up on my statement. I waited till today to call, since my statement said it can take 7 days after check-out for points to post and learned that resort fees and parking are the only two things that do NOT earn reward points at the Marriott vacation resorts.

Never knew this. I wasn't expecting a windfall of points, but I was looking forward to earning some points on this trip. No complaints, just surprising that fees for crafts and kids night out and things like that don't earn reward points. I had everything charged to my room, so it is not like I paid cash under the table for these things.

I've noticed the same thing with our recent stay at a Residence Inn down in San Diego. We only incurred parking charges but I was told (after returning and not seeing the points showing up) that incidental charges at Residence Inn or Fairfield Inn don't earn MRP.
We also had an excursion charged to the room when we stayed at the Phuket Beach Club last December which didn't show up on the points history. I haven't had time to figure out why I didn't get the points.
 
Sounds like this has been a long standing policy at Marriott. Incedentals do not earn points. When I called to inquire about my points, I asked why this policy was in force and was connected to someone at the Marriott Vacation Club. He didn't know why either but cited incedentals and parking as the only two charges that don't earn points. Looks like this is true of more than just vacation club resorts. Interesting.
 
In accordance with the Marriott Rewards Terms and Conditions, Points or Miles may be earned on room rates ONLY. This has been in place for a long time.

If you use the Marriott Rewards Visa Card to pay for your stay, then you can get points on everything including incidentals.
 
You can also earn points on food and purchases, according to the Marriott rep I spoke with.

Mountain Valley was my first ever Marriott timeshare stay so this is all very new to me. It's nice to have a better understanding of things, now.

I would talk to Customer Service and ask them where it is in the T&C.

Curious if they are considering those to be third-party service, since that is the only exclusion.

Charges that do not qualify for Points include taxes applied to the room rate, purchase of Marriott gift certificates or gift cards, purchase of The Ritz-Carlton gift certificates or gift cards, charges for third party-provided goods and services at participating Marriott brand hotels or Ritz-Carlton hotels, and catering or banquet functions charged to the guest room account.

You should have received points for resort fees and parking (at MVCI, Marriott and Renaissance Hotels), as well as charges from the resort for things like crafts and kids night out. Third party services like tours run by outside vendors do not receive points, nor do taxes. Some locations do not understand the rules well, but a call to Marriott Rewards should be an easy fix. It always has been for me.

The rules are different for the lower priced brands, which are usually based on room rate only.

I've always been credited with incidentals such as food and liquor. No 3rd party charges.

I assume he is talking about the 5X per Dollar spent on Credit Card.
Not what this thread was about which is talking about Reward Credit at Hotel not on CC?

This does not pertain to your incident, but as an FYI: For reasons unknown, at least two MVCI properties do not give Marriott Reward Points.
1. Marriott Bangkok Empire Place
2. Marriott's Streamside - Vail

Perhaps it is the result of negotiations between Marriott and the owner of the properties.

Empire Place also does not earn elite nights which I discovered after a week's stay last year.

Is there a list of Marriott/Ritz-Carlton properties that do not provide elite night credit? If there is, it seems to be getting longer! Thanks for sharing info on Empire Place, as I was unaware of its elite night status.

47 Park St - If I could stay there, I wouldn't care about the points. It was my all time best Marriott award. Like having your own apartment in Mayfair. What a place! Sadly, you can no longer stay there on awards.
