I sincerely hope this is true. My post of a few weeks ago about panic buying at Costco was not me idly whining for no reason. It was trying to stop outrageous excessive buying.

For those of us who need TP and sanitzing wipes, maybe we can stand by the door with another sign, "WE WILL BUY YOUR RETURNS AT COST".

Nope...I want a discount. At least my 2% Exec membership & 2% on Visa card. Then another 50% for the heck of it!

Too bad COSTCO didn't have sense enough to just limit purchases.
I'm not inclined to blame retailers. Customers went nuts before mgmt saw what was happening.

This is on the buyer.

I do not want products that others have had in their cars, in their homes. They should have thought about their own actions vs relying on Costco's legendary kindness in return policy.

Someone posted on my nextdoor feed that our local Costco had a sign up no returns on these items....

My supermarket, which is still reasonably well supplied, has a sign that it is not taking any returns - too much danger of passing on contamination.

Bull. The store is responsible for sales and inventory. Should have put restrictions in place IMMEDIATELY! Someone pulls up to POS with a cart full of TP, sales person should have sounded an alarm.

The individuals need to be held accountable. Their selfishness deprived others in need. Many of the stores did establish reasonable limits.

Easier said than done. Costco is a wholesale warehouse that caters to businesses, and Costco did enact buying limits after it became clear what was going on. People buy pallet-loads of product every day. I at least commend Costco for limiting purchases on selected items recently, and for doing what they could to reduce panic-buying. That they're not accepting returns on these products is a smart business move. People were warned. Now they get to live with their decisions.

And for the record, my spouse confirmed the sign posted above is real. They are not allowing returns on those products. Other retailers are limiting returns as well.

What???
Really?

Wrong!!!!!!!!

Retailers are there for the consumer
I’m having a party. Need all your 7up and you want an alarm sounded?? WTH?

Omg. That is why I actually think people are stupid. Comments like that

so. Tomorrow there’s a global fire and Costco is at fault for a run on fire extinguishers??

retailers have a normal weekly order and the rings add or subtract to the normal amount
But the idiots were in a frenzy and the computers couldn’t order for the entire country all at once

this is 100% the public’s fault

Teenage cashier doesn't give any kind of a crap, thinks nothing of it. Why would they? I do not invite comment on my purchases. For all they know, the local restaurant put out food poisoning and I have family members confined to bathrooms back home.

Stores sell stuff. Stuff sold. Weird inventory pattern noticed, action taken.

This doesn't happen when an ice storm or blizzard is coming. Overbuying, yes. If you are late to the party, no bread or milk for you. I don't ever recall an empty shelf of TP before.

Especially in this case, since GI-tract issues are not part of the Covid-19 symptoms. I still don't get the run on TP. Maybe cheaper to blow your nose?

I think people realize that they may be locked down and not get to go out. You stock up food because you need to eat. After you eat, you need to go... and you need TP.

It was not ever going to be "and not get to go out". Whoever spread that rumor owes a lot of us TP. I am 6 rolls from disaster.

We only have 2 months supply of TP and this TP shortage is getting me a little concerned. I have a year's worth of shampoo and body wash. So you get an idea that I stock up household supplies. I don't want to go into the stores anymore but I really hope that TP start showing up in the stores shelves again.
