Interac E-Transfer is great. Our credit union charges $1.50. Anyone with an email address and/or a cell phone who connects that information to their Canadian bank account can send and receive transfers. Works well when you want to transfer funds to someone who banks at a different institution than you do.

To elaborate on Interac: You log into your online banking, click on the menu item to do an Interac email transfer, put in the amount along with the email address you're sending it to and a password that the recipient is aware of, and voila your money is sent.

The recipient just has to receive the email, identify/log into the online banking that they want to deposit to, and enter the password. Money is in the account instantly with no hold.

I accept payments for my Wyndham rentals through interac transfer. I feel the US dollar price at the current exchange rate less 3% is fair. So far my Canadian guests have been very happy for a little relief. That being said anyone who wants to pay through chase quick pay or pop money can get a 3% discount on my USD prices as well. I am all about saving my guests money.

It is still credit card based though, no? That is the problem, someone can use a stolen credit card or even dispute the card later and the person renting the week out is SOL.
It goes straight into and out of my checking account. It is an app for iPhone and android phones. https://cash.me Though i suppose it could be tied to a credit card. Not sure if it could be reversed as easily as paypal

There are a number of these direct payment systems with US banks (and other money-direct companies). I've used a few with systems like P2P and Pop-money.

They are great as long as you can verify the goods you are receiving. But, many don't work on weekends (bank cut-off times etc...) and may require delays for larger cash amounts. Killer for time-sensitive or larger transactions.

I wish there was a single trusted system for instant transfer with a more secure dispute system. I'll keep watching here for suggestions...
