Just drove by the LV Hilton, and all that was left was the big red letter T from the word Hilton.

I knew it was no longer a Hilton after Jan 1, but it was kind of odd to see the Hilton name gone.

I guess it's now simply to be called LVH.

End of an era.

I wonder how long unofficially it will still be referred to as the Hilton. I know in the back of travel sections, a lot of packages to Las Vegas list the hotel an price. How many people will know what 'LVH' means.

We got one of their players club offers in the mail yesterday, explaining that as of January 3rd, LVH = Las Vegas Hotel

(I suppose International was taken?)

In my mind, LVH will simply mean "Las Vegas Hilton" - kind of like when they tried to rename the Sears tower to the Willis tower - everyone here still calls it the Sears tower. So, whatever.

I grew up near the old MGM studios, now Sony Pictures Studios.

On more than one occasion I've confused someone by inadvertently referring to the property as MGM, which is hasn't been for at least 25 years.

Old habits die hard.

In my mind,...

I agree. Personally, I think most people will refer to it as "the old Las Vegas Hilton". I was more curious to see how it's referenced professionally. If you have people coming to LV for the first time, and have a choice of Tropicana, Mirage, or LVH, I doubt a lot will take LVH.

What I kind of found interesting is that the owners didn't or couldn't get a name brand franchise for the place.

I do wonder how long it will last. Maybe another empty ghost at the north end sometime in the future???.

Hilton perhaps saw the writing on the wall???

I find it interesting that this leaves Hilton without any namesake hotels
close to the strip, aside from the TS-resorts. There are Embassy Suites,
but they lack the cachet of the Hilton name.

We will miss The Las Vegas Hilton. It was a great place to have a convention or just to party. I will miss going to a convention and picking up lots of HHonors points.

I think these are two good observations that relate to each other. Going to be kind of hard now for a HHonors member to get points in Vegas, where Hilton no longer has a major presence in a major city, other than Embassy and the timeshares.
