I just got my package for my Gold membership in Marriott Rewards for 2012. (I've dropped from Platinum.) Looking at the list of benefits, I noticed that free breakfast for Gold and Platinum is no longer on the list. I just checked the web site, and it's no longer on the list there either. I guess it was costing them too much. Concierge lounge access is still there.

Free breakfast was never a benefit--in and of itself. Lounge access always was. HOWEVER, properties WITHOUT lounges must provide breakfast to Golds and Plats. This is still in effect.

So does that mean that the rooftop buffet at the Grand Flora, or any of the top hotels is no longer a perk even for platinum? That would be a a big loss!

We usually stayed up so late at night while staying at both the Grand Flora and the Champs Elysees that we had to rush to make it to breakfast before they closed. :D

Does this benefit include Vacation Club properties? I just got Gold for the first time.

We will be staying at the new autograh collection scrub island. I know they don't give the breakfast at resorts, but being an AC, does the breakfast rule apply here?

When we went to Wailea last month, we were told there was no lounge, nor was there a free breakfast on weekdays. Per this quote, it seems my husband (who is platinum elite) should have gotten the breakfast. Are we missing something?

Wailea is a resort, and as such is excluded from the free breakfast.

This is what we have been told, and apparently that is the case. BUT, that is NOT what the MR terms quoted above say. What the quote says is that ".../Lounge Access" is not available at resort locations. It further states where Lounge access is not available, continental breakfast is. Further, if this benefit is not available at "resorts", then it should not refer to "Marriott Hotels and Resorts"; it should just say "Marriott Hotels" for clarity.

Guess this is just one of those things that is not worded well, and it bugs me. Oh well...

Furthermore, some properties ARE resorts without Resort in their name and therefore do not provide breakfast. One example is the JW Marriott Grande Lakes. There are others.

We will still get a room upgrade based on availability.

Bummer this breakfast thing! ... It was one of the perks.
