No Frills, No Seats: Ryanair's Latest Cost-Cutting Plan - by Lisa Bachelor/ Consumer Affairs/ theguardian/ theguardian.com

"Plans by Ryanair to introduce standing room on its aircraft will not happen for at least two years and may never materialise if the airline fails to meet stringent European safety requirements.

The budget airline's boss, Michael O'Leary, will talk about his plans to replace 10 rows of seats with a standing area as well as introducing a coin-operated toilet on some planes in an interview on ITV's How to Beat the Budget Airlines tonight..."

O'Leary's been rambling on about 'stand-up' airplanes and pay toilets for years. No news here. Nothing to see. Move along.

Even if this were to happen, who would stand up in a flight just to save a few bucks? And how much money, especially on Ryan Air, can someone realistically save by standing instead of sitting? And no matter how much Ryan Air were to cut fares for standing-room passengers, all passengers still would have to pay fees and taxes.

Honestly, FWIW and in my personal opinion, this is not a very savvy decision.

Once again, O'Leary is having us on, as the British say. Anything to get his name in the paper.

Cheers
