Pouring through as many posts as I can to learn about my lousy TS I bought and am wondering what TPU and MF and all those acronyms mean, and what they mean to me.

THanks!

MF = maintenance fees (also called annual dues)

TPUs = trade power units (what RCI uses to tell you how powerful a trader your timeshare is or isn't)

Acronyms forever...

Pouring through as many posts as I can to learn about my lousy TS I bought and am wondering what TPU and MF and all those acronyms mean, and what they mean to me.

TPU is "Trading Power Units", the relatively new (and apparently variable) "value currency" which RCI now assigns to any given week at any given RCI "weeks" resort for RCI exchange or "trading" purposes.

MF is maintenance fee, the annual cost associated with timeshare ownership for as long as you own it.
Along those same lines...

SA is "special assessment"; the occasional unexpected and unwelcome surprise cost imposed in addition to the annual maintenance fees. SA's are collected to cover unexpected or uninsured costs (e.g., losses from hurricane damage or floods, etc. --- or to make up for inadequate "reserves").

Josh.....Are you confused?

You are confusing me with all these posts. Do you want to learn the lingo? Do you want to rescind what you purchased? Do you want to buy/rent more points?

Which is it?

It's hard to tell-I took "i want to learn all about this lousy TS I bought" to mean the time to rescind must be over but, good point! If it's over, this is a good place to learn how to use it.

The more I read, the more I learn how I probably got hosed. At first I was open to just accepting it and using points. But if I'm going to have to pay all these extra fees, I'll never get my money's worth out of it. I'm looking right at my contract and it says free charter membership, free points conversion, and free RCI membership. So if they are charging me to use points, I'm going to raise a fuss. Sorry for the confusion. I'm just trying to get up to speed on this stuff.

Hosed Is As Hosed Does.

Free RCI membership is 1 thing. Free RCI exchange reservations would be something else again.

Plus, it would be really something if your contract says you get free RCI membership forever, rather than just for some set number of years -- unless you bought into Wyndham or some such. Wyndham has its own internal points-based reservation system & Wyndham provides "free" RCI membership for all its fee-paying Wyndham owners.

RCI Points & Wyndham points are not only not the same thing, but they are not interchangeable -- even though both RCI & Wyndham are owned by the same parent corporation, which also has Wyndham in its name.

Confusing, no ?
