5) Can you travel any time, or are you locked into the school schedule?
Anytime, summer months are preferred, but are flexible for good dea

6) Can you make firm plans 12 or more mos. in advance?
Yes

Yes, would like to have flexibility for daily reservations.

Yes, we are computer savvy and good at finding deals online, and doing research online.

12) Do you understand that once you buy a timeshare, it may be very difficult to sell or give away, and you are responsible for all fees, until you do?

If you are going to trade all the time, why do you want your home resort to be in Miami? If you plan to trade most of the time - you want a strong trader, rather than a specific location.

These are difficult exchanges, and exchanging is an advanced skill - I think if you buy a timeshare with the goal of exchanging into these areas all the time, you are going to be disappointed. There are far fewer timeshares outside the US, and far more demand than supply.

7) Can you vacation for a full week at a time?
Yes, would like to have flexibility for daily reservations.

Timesharing works best when you can vacation for 7 nights at a time, because most systems, including exchanging, are set up to have the most availability for 7 night stays.

10) How much can you afford to spend every year for a maintenance fee that will come due right after Christmas, and increase each year?
$650

This is unrealistic for a 4-5* timeshare - You should expect a maintenance fee of $1,000-$2,000 for that quality.

4-5* is not nearly as important as being able to travel where we want to go. We want to "tour" more so than "vacation" probably won't want to go to the same place often. Or years in between visits. So from further research a timeshare may not be good at all for us.
Or like some people we've seen we would need to own multiple timeshare, and that may not be economical for us. What I'm seeing a lot is try to stay within your network, but haven't seen a network with all the places we want to go. Alot of which are out the country where timeshares are not common.
We'll keep researching timeshare, and search for options outside of timeshares.
Traveling outside of the country is expensive and we were trying to find a way to lower long term cost. We also really like the idea of staying in condos vs hotels.

Many timeshare and owned condos are available through rentals. The trade-off is that it's likely to be a bit more expensive than owning (provided you don't buy from developer), but you aren't stuck with a unit you don't want to use all the time, and may have difficulty trading into what you want.

There aren't a lot of timeshares in the areas where you most want to travel to. I think you should look into other options.
