During the sales presentation, I was told I can use the points to book any HGV resort/location without any additional fees. Most of the comments in this forum suggest otherwise. Is this correct? or Was I given incorrect information?

$59 booking fee, 3 days minimum. No resort fees, but sometimes parking is paid (locations like Waikiki, NYC, etc).

It's a lie, There are no no-fee memberships in HGVC.
Certain resorts and elite tiers have an "all-inclusive"
fee... One annual fee covers everything.
But generally, almost anything you do in HGVC has a fee.

There's a saying about salesmen:
How do you know a salesman is lying? His lips are moving.
... But unless you have it in writing, it counts for nothing.

If you are still within the rescission time frame, rescind
(and buy resale for far less), but if you are outside the
time frame, learn to enjoy what you own.

I'm still confused about what is HGV and what is Diamond Resorts. The latter was acquired by HGV but it's a bit vague what that all means. Anyone have experience booking one or the other since this merger?

There are several other threads in this forum that discus "HGVC Max."
In brief, HGVC is selling access to both HGVC + DRI ("HVC") thru Max.
Without it, no cross booking. You have to buy your way in for access.

My take is this: Ever since I bought my first TS in 2007 (15 years ago)...
I've stayed elsewhere (via RCI), but never thought about staying at a DRI.
So why would I suddenly want to pay big-bucks to do so now?
Just to have a new toy to play with? -- I think not.

I own both. Diamond does not charge reservation or cancellation fee. DRI does not charge for saving points. So if you are HGV Max to book diamond, I think the reservation in Diamond properties is free for reservation. But if you did not buy point protection, cancellation has to be 61 days before arrival. With points protection, it is 31 days.
