I checked the Hiltons (all) in Maui and saw that only Waldorf Astoria, the higher end Hiton is in Maui. I checked for HH points and I could not get conversion...is this Hotel "Waldorf Astoria" excluded from HH? I called HH directly and the could not provide me with point conversion. I thought all Hilton was accessable thru some type of point conversion.

I checked RCI and was mot thrilled with facilities offered in Maui. We love Maui and disappointed that HiltonGVC did not have something there.

All you experts ---your thoughts??

Are you trying to book with HH points or with HGVC points.

There are VIP awards that are the best way to go. Here are the following with HH points...

Select from six to fourteen free nights for two at participating Category 6 Hilton Family hotels worldwide. 175,000 to 410,000 points per stay

Select from six to fourteen free nights for two at participating Waldorf=Astoria Collection hotels. 175,000 to 815,000 points per stay

Select from six to fourteen free nights for two at participating Hilton Family hotels* (*Excludes Category 6 HHonors hotels) worldwide. 150,000 to 350,000 points per stay

Enjoy six free nights for two at Hilton Waikoloa Village® or Hilton Hawaiian Village® Beach Resort & Spa. 175,000 per stay.

For HGVC equivalent see page 170 of the current HGVC Guide.

It does not specifically list W=A but it might be available as an options as it is a VIP award for HH, would think that would be an option in HGVC.

Going Global
from six to fourteen free nights for two at participating Category 6 Hilton Family hotels worldwide. From 8750 HGVC per stay

Aloha Spirit
from six nights for two at Hilton Hawaiian Resorts. 8750 HGVC per stay

The only reason it may not be available is that they DO NOT Participate.

Call and ask.

I'm guessing that you don't want to stay at Maui Lea at Maui Hill in Kihei or the former Embassy Suites which doesn't have a kitchen but is now back on HGVC's list. Both of these exchanges keep popping up but I'm not crazy about them either.

You got me wondering about the Going Global W=A rewards and I just got off the phone with Hilton myself.

I think there must be typo on their website because the CS rep said W=A only books by the night. There is no going Global 6 night discount package. I pointed out their own website to them and they said they did not know, they would have to look into it. Here is the link to the VIP reward offers.
http://hhonors.hilton.com/en/hhonors/rewards/hrr/index.jhtml

What I did find was this link......
http://hhonors1.hilton.com/en_US/hh/rewards/freenight.do#waldorf

And here are the points for W=A Maui

Grand Wailea Resort Hotel & Spa Waldorf=Astoria Collection

Points values are in HH points (these are NOT HGVC point requirements)
80,000 per night High Season
High Season Dates:
Mar 15 - Apr 12
Jun 13 - Aug 23
Nov 21 - Nov 28
Dec 20 - Dec 25

70,000 per night Low Season
Low Season Dates:
Jan 2 - Mar 14
Apr 13 - Jun 12
Aug 24 - Nov 20
Nov 29 - Dec 19

Not really sure what happens between Dec 25 and Jan 1 as no info is provided. Or they offer NO rewards AT all and it is blacked out.

but is now back on HGVC's list.

What HGVC list are you referring to? Does HGVC limit the resorts in RCI that you can exchange into. Is that what "List" you are referring to?

clarify please.

Where were you able to find that? Hilton could not provide that even, though I asked if there were discounted packages.

So basically 50K per night instead of either 70K or 80K depending on which days you pick. I have enought for a 4 night stay but just shy of a 5 night stay.

Yes. HGVC does not allow members to exchange into all RCI timeshares. In fact the RCI book that HGVC sends to members contains only selected resorts. Mainly, they won't let you exchange into a resort that's a dog or one that a lot of members have complained about.

For example, I was perfectly happy with our stay in Kahana Falls but a lot of members complained about how small the 1-bdrm units were. In actuality they were on the smaller side. So you can no longer exchange there. For a brief perion Manhattan Club was dropped but now they're back.

At one point you could tell them you wanted the exchange even if it wasn't an acceptable one. But this seems to change back and forth over the years.

When I first joined HGVC there were a lot more Maui resorts that you could exchange into. Now there are only a couple and I'm not crazy about them.

For years we've said if HGVC builds on Maui we would buy, yes, even at developer prices. Of course I also said that about New York until I found out tere wasn't a kitchen.

I have been getting email on special pricing and hhonors rewards since I became a member in 1997. However, looking at the emails more closely, I think they are coming from American Express. The email do not say you must use an AE or even have an AE. The only restrictive emails I get is the kama`aina where you have to show proof of Hawaii Residentacy (i.e Drivers License).

Sandy and Deros understand the Hilton system very well. Another option for more information on how much an HHonors redemption in Maui would be is to go to your account on the Hilton Family website. Then book under redemptions or rewards. This will tell you how many HHonors points it will take for any specific set of dates.

There are several Hilton resorts in Costa Rica that are currently all inclusive and are not yet rated under a category. HHonors points can be used at these hotels as well if you call Hilton and ask.

Oh yeah, that book I filed away because I have have too many RCI bookes. I get an II book, an RCI Points book, and RCI Weeks book, a Fairfield Book and an HGVC Guide.

I pulled it out and that last dated 2006. The pictures are bigger and it is easier to read, so perhaps I should use it as my basic RCI book. I generally don't trade into too many dogs anyway. I did find it interesting that Gulf states had been reduced to total of 5 choices. Yes there are a lot of dogs in texas, but I few new TS are making like bearable. (That goodness for Wyndham La Cascada in San Antonio.)

Has there been an new HGVC version of RCI since then?

Thanks for the nice comment. I know a lot about the Hilton Hotel system but I wish I new more about the TS. Always heard of TS during my many stay at Hilton and Family Hotels but never learn until a couple of years ago. However, I am excited about learning about the Hilton TS and eventually staying in one. (1st year owner)

Below is the link to the other great values for the months between Sept 1 and December 20 2008 for the Hawaii Hilton Hotels. <http://www.hiltonfamilyhawaii.com/discountrewards.aspx>
