We recently purchased HGVC Resale. Last year my wife and I had the chance to stay at the Ritz in Sarasota (awesome place) it was total relaxation on the beach and the overall resort is just out of this world - with outdoor dining beautiful beach layout, and everything classy. Here's my question, other than Hawaii, are there any HGVC Beach resorts/affiliates either in Florida or elsewhere in the USA that would resemble the accomadations "similiar" to the Ritz in Sarasota??? I know this is a tall order but inquisitive minds wanna know....

Well, its not exactly the Ritz... what is? But a classy resort is the South Seas Island Resort (a/k/a South Seas Plantation) with its six HGVC-affiliated resorts at the North end of the Sanibel-Captiva Islands. Its an older, venerable complex which retains a remote, end-of-the-world feel. If you can't get in there, Sanibel has five other HGVC-affiliated resorts of its own.

The HGVC-affiliated resorts on Marco Island further South may have better and newer facilities, but I used to go to Marco in my childhood, before the developers found it and there were no high-rises. I find its over-development to be soul-less and a little depressing. <just my 2 cents>

The downside is that you cannot book these properties online and may find availability problematic, as many who own there prefer to stay there. Even so, Sanibel-Captiva is a great getaway. On one side are uncrowded, white-sand beaches with world-class shelling, and on the other, a bay that's great for boating of all forms and a wildlife refuge.
