I am in the process of completing a CWA resale purchase of 308,000 pts (Thanks to TUG!!!!). So glad I found this site!!! I probably saved $30k or more I really don't know..

My question is this.... As part of my resale purchase agreement I had the seller RCI bank and book me 2 vacations next year using their 2015 points which would have expired otherwise. I agreed to and paid the RCI and guest certificate fees at the closing. I also had another vacation already booked on my own.

Because of this I will probably not need any of my 2016 points during 2016 and I cannot pool them as I do not have my account yet and I am still waiting on Wyndham. I am just trying to get all my facts together when it becomes active.

I would like to try to exchange to Key West in Feb/March of 2017 with some of these points. At what point should I start a search for a 1BR unit and how many Wyndham (CWA) points will I need to deposit. I really don't know anything about RCI. Do I or can I deposit more points for a better resort? Does it matter? I've seen the threads about the global exchange points for Wyndham but I don't fully understand.

If you can't use any of the points, there is no harm in depositng them all. You can deposit and set up an Ongoing Search to Key West as soon as you have the Wyndham and RCI accounts in your name.

Great. That's what I thought but wanted to make sure. Should I deposit all in one lump sum or it it better to deposit in 1BR increment amounts per the global exchange chart?

One deposit. RCI will take only as many points as any resv requires.

PS, I would also put a backup plan in Ongoing Search in case Key West doesn't come through. The wider you range your checkin dates and target resorts, the better chance for success.

OK. Thanks for the tips. We are not set on Key West so I can certainly search anywhere. We were just thinking since we are exchanging we might as well go somewhere that Wyndham doesn't have a property. I'm sure I will have more questions once my account is setup. Merry Christmas!!

One last question....
Do the points deposited to RCI expire 2 years from the date of deposit or 2 years from when the points would have expired (end of the use year)?

Date of deposit.

Speaking from experience, the answer is actually "It depends."

As one who bought from the developer originally, my experience may or may not match a pure resale owner's one, but here it goes.

I can actually get more than two years of life out of RCI depending on when I deposit the points. For some reason, my RCI points from Wyndham always expire on 8/31 each year. If I deposit before that, say 8/1/15, then the points expire 8/31/17. But if I wait until 9/1/15, the points expire 8/31/18.

The August date is likely tied to when I originally purchased (it was a June or July of 20xx), so the OP's expiration date may vary. But the process is likely the same or similar.

If I recall correctly, RCI deposits expire two years from the end of the month in which you deposit. So, you can use that to your advantage and deposit on the first of a month, set up an ongoing search, and get 2 years plus the remainder of the month in your deposit.

Example:
Deposit March 1, 2016. Points in RCI expire March 31, 2018.

Thank you for the info. I also got my BBS login linked to my TUG membership properly so it now reflects that I am a member.

I have a related side bar question.... Are there many resorts in RCI for Key West? I just started looking but I haven't seen any for anytime of the year.
