New York via RCI

We are a family of 4 (2 adult and 2 young kids 2 and 5 yr old). We wanted to book one of the NY options HCNY, MC or W57.

I have initiated an ongoing RCI search
- Should I select a studio or a 1BR ( I am not sure what is available via RCI)
- How far in advance should I do this to have a decent chance.
- How far in advance could I go. I remember reading 2 yr somethwere but the ongoing search would not let me go beyond 1 yr.
- Will I get an email after there is a match or I need to keep checking online?
- Is there anything available in Toronto?

Any other suggestions to keep in mind.

moreover I have to select the room type (studio vs. 1 br....). I'd have liked to first find the availability of 1BR if that is unavailable studio. Do I need to start two searches and pay 199 for each?
Since availability of 1br is limited is it allowed to stay in studios with kids, do they provide rollaway beds?

The 1 bedrooms at Manhattan Club have two bathrooms so may be more convenient with four people. You can put a rollaway in the room. There is a couch bed but ours was very uncomfortable. I was there 3 months ago.

I've not stayed at the Hilton clubs but I've not seen 1 bedrooms in RCI, only studios. Not sure if you could get one with an ongoing request. Don't even know if they exist. The studios in HGVC typically only sleep 2.

The studios at The Hilton Club are basicly hotel rooms with a KING and no sofa.

Have stayed at the 1bdr MC with 2 baths - one with a big shower stall and the other with a tub/shower combo. Other than a partial kitchen, the MC 1bdr is very close to be a standard 1bdr timeshare unit.

Agree. Good description. I've stayed in the one bedroom MC unit. It's set up like the Marriott CH, but the MC has an ensuite bedroom/bathroom and another bathroom right off where you enter into the unit . Nice set up. Enjoyed it.

With your children being 2 and 5, the studio at MC will be large enough for you if they can sleep on the sofa bed. The bed was a queen, not a king, but you won't want your kids sleeping too far away from you at that age anyway. There are different configurations. Some have the sofabed and the bed in the same room, others have the bed tucked away in an alcove.

Thank you all. I'll go with the unanimous suggestion of MC Studio.

Just in case I get matched up with HCNY or W57 studio, will they allow 2 young kids (I know it will be uncomfortable and there is no curtain etc) and will they provide a rollover bed?

Hilton Club New York has 1 bedroom/1 bath units with a sofa bed and 2 bedroom/2 bath units.

Check by phone with HGVC about your search. I believe that if you put in a search for a one bedroom, they will inform you if they find a one bedroom or smaller, or perhaps it is the other way around, if you request a studio they will search that and everything larger. Anyway, I know if the search is entered correctly, you will be informed of availability for either size with the one search, giving you a better chance of finding something.
Agree, the MC studio would work just fine with little ones and come up more often in searches.

The studios at Hilton Club NY and West 57th have a maximum occupancy of two people.
NOTE: RCI Resort directory provides maximum occupancy information for each unit.

fyi...Manhattan Club charges a daily fee (this is in addition to the RCI exchange fee).

Resort amenities fee
$30.00 fee per unit per night for any size unit FOR ALL RESERVATION TYPES covers the Mandatory Housekeeping and Hospitality fees. Fee is charged at check in, collected by credit card.

There's a thread on the sighting board regarding this - http://www.tugbbs.com/forums/showthread.php?t=189414
(NOTE: only members (not guests) can access the TUG Sightings forum).

The Hilton Club studios have almost NO EXTRA FLOOR SPACE.

There is a King bed and built in desk/dresser. There is NO refrigerator, as I had to keep my beer cold with ICE. There was the desk chair & bed. The bathroom was okay in size.

While I was there, I don't recall any children in the lounge room.

I did tour the 1bdr units - they have a bedroom and sofabed in LR.

I have never in 8 years of looking, have ever found the 1 or 2 BR at the Hilton Club ever deposited into RCI. They are generally all booked up my HC owners and have never made the deposit into RCI.

Only studios have ever been seen my me, and I have continually looked over a 8 year period.

If you can use SFX instead of RCI, there is no daily fee.

I think your chances of getting any of those are far better with SFX. I suggest using SFX instead of RCI for NYC. Not only are your chances greater for getting a match, you won't have the additional fees that RCI members have to pay.

SFX has not yielded a single NYC request that I have had for over 1 year now. This is the longest I have ever waited for a NYC request. I would suggest that RCI is a better opportunity when a bulk deposit has been made.

Not sure why SFX has not gotten many NYC deposits this past year. I have used SFX in the past, but no right now.

I only have HGVC do I have access to SFX via HGVC?

Yes, they provide rollaway beds. With the ages of your kids I think it work fine. Our first stay at the MC was in a studio with two kids who were a lot older than yours. Though it was a bit crowded it all worked out fine. We didn't spend that much time in the room anyway.

You can join SFX and then deposit your HGVC week into SFX.

If you book a week at your home resort during your normal ownership time, you just call SFX or fill out a deposit form online.

If you book a week at a different HGVC resort with your HGVC points, you still deposit to SFX, but you will need to pay for a guest certificate a couple weeks before the person using your exchange checks in. For example, I booked a week at HHV specifically so I would have high trade value for NYC in the future. SFX needed a copy of my reservation and told me they will call me with the guest information that I will need to add later on. It is a pretty easy process, but it does take the additional call to HGVC and the additional fee for the guest certificate.

Comparing the cost of a $49. guest certificate vs. $30./per day charge at Manahattan Club using RCI, makes the guest certificate a bargain.

Not sure when you're looking to go to NYC but play around with the RCI portal on the HGVC site today (HINT HINT) ;)

Go to the RCI site and filter by the following
REGION: Mid-Atlantic then New York
SLEEP: 4 or more
LENGTH OF STAY: 7+
MINIMUM UNIT SIZE: 1 bedroom or better
then select The Manhattan Club (#4064) and pick you check-in date (depending on availability, you may see that you can stay for weeks)

Ongoing searches will not search RCI Points Inventory (only RCI Weeks). You have to check availability in RCI Points manually.
Inventory in RCI Points becomes available 10 months before check-in so it's best to login and check RCI Points Inventory regularly as soon as you hit the 10 month window. ;)

Good Luck
