Hi all,

My sister is new to timeshare and has purchased with Grupo Mayan. Can anyone give some advice or tips on how their system works? I have not yet seen her paperwork but she says she bought their large unit, maybe called a King or something along the "majestic" sounding line. She says she has use anytime during the year EXCEPT X-mas, Holy week, etc. total of 4 weeks excluded.
Can anyone give me a crash course on insider tips?
Thanks in advance,
Pam

I'm sure you will get some expert answers, as well, but if you use the search function "Search this forum" Button and search for "Grupo Mayan" you will come up with a wealth of info. in the old posts.

If she is within the 5 days since purchase tell her to rescind first, This will save her thousands
Learn about it here and other places
Buy resale later for maybe .20 to. .50 on the dollar. Maybe even cheaper in the current economy
see the Tug Classified Ads,, www.holidaygroup.com or ebay for pricing that may be more realistic There are many others too.
I paid retail for my first timeshare but if I knew then what
I know now I would have rescinded.

My guess is that she bought a Mayan Regency

Which is what they call the Mayan Palace now. Did she just do this at one of the resorts? Is she still within the 5 day cancellation period?
If so by all means rescind asap.

If not, the system is pretty simple, from your description, she has a 2 bedroom lockout, ( maybe 1 per year, maybe 2??) that yields a 1 bedroom and a hotel unit, this registered week can be used year round( booked up to 60 months in advance) . Then she has a vacation fair week, same unit but it can only be booked outside of the FEB, Mar timeframe in advance, ( 6 months out) or 45 days out during Prime time .
There website works most of the time, or you can call the 1st day of the month that the 6 months out occurs. i.e. say you wanted Feb 22,2010, you can call on the 1st of August 2009 to book these.

She will need to learn this stuff, if you have specific questions, post or email me.

jmho,

Greg
