Hello, we are staying at SVV and they gave us the sales pitch today for Sheraton Flex. We purchased 51,700 Sheraton VOI which we can exchange yearly for 1,509 MVC points. We told them that we wanted enough points to be able to spend 7 days a year in a one bedroom suite at the Disney Grand Floridian and they pulled up the costs and said this would be more than enough to cover to MVC and exchange to DVC.

We are new to all of this and saw other posts on here about the Sheraton Flex being worth $0 resale. Please see attached for our offer and what we are spending. We stay in Marriott monthly and have titanium status so the Gold Elite doesn't really do anything for us. Is there a better route to get MVC and use when we want for DVC or other Marriott properties? When I asked about resale they told me we would lose access to “the network” which I guess is Il? We just signed up today so we have 10 days left to rescind.

Looking forward to any advice. Thanks!

They also said they recently switched from the 9-12 months early for Sheraton only properties to now being able to convert to MVC 13 months out for bookings

Hate to break it to you but I have never seen a single week at Grand Floridian show up for exchange in Interval. Saratoga Springs and Old Key West sure, plenty during less busy times at WDW, but never Grand Floridian.

You should recind now and then do some homework. If you really want a chance to stay at the Grand Floridian you will need to buy a DVC contract and try to book it right at 7 months. If you want a guaranteed stay there you will need to buy a Grand Floridian specific DVC contract and book at 11 months. You can buy a VGF resale contract for $165 - $180 per point. A week in a VGF studio would cost 120 pts in September (Cheapest), 132 in December, 158 pts in Oct & Nov, up to 234 pts Apr 13 - Apr 20 and Dec 24 - Dec 31. Double those costs if you want a one bedroom.

The saleperson lied to you and told you what you wanted to hear.

I agree with the prior poster. Cancel while you can (10 days) and do a lot more homework. While you do have enough HomeOptions to exchange through II into DVC for a 1BR for most times of the year, you certainly won't be getting Grand Floridian. Expect Old Key West, Saratoga Springs and Animal Kingdom Villas. Less often we see Boulder Ridge and Boardwalk. You can also do the same with resale Sheraton Flex that you get for $0 or with most other Marriott or Vistana deeded weeks on the resale market.

You probably want to start reading through the Vistana forum on TUG.

Thank you both for this info. They told me that I wouldn't have network access if I get resale points and that if I did get resale points to add to my 51k Sheraton Flex points then I still would not be able to use the resale points in Il and only use the 51k points I purchased through the developer. They seem to be ruining their resale value themselves by trying to restrict them so much.

Am I not able to just purchase all of this on the resale market and then purchase my own Il membership or would the version of Il I can purchase be different from the one they offer?

If you buy resale Sheraton flex and don't retro it, you won't be able to use it in Abound, but you can use it for the Sheraton flex properties and in II. Yes you can use resale Sheraton flex in II, and yes you would need your own separate II account and it will have the same access to inventory, but you'll get charged the annual fee, in addition you'll be charged a reduced exchange fee for exchanges into other MVC, Sheraton or Westin resorts and the full exchange fee to other brands.
If your requirement is Grand Floridian, have you already looked into renting DVC points or renting what you want via a platform such as redweek? If not, look at that option before committing to any purchase, resale or otherwise, as you won't be locked into enduring maint fees.

You were sold a big bag full of lies and should rescind immediately. You’re never going to be able to trade into Grand Floridian, and if you want to buy a trader to get DVC on Interval International there are a lot of other cheaper, more cost-effective resale resorts you can purchase to do this. Rescind while you can.

Also, for the amount you paid for that, you can just pick up a resale VGF contract.

Welcome to TUG @Kyleandmary

thank your lucky stars you found us in time.

Rescind first thing tomorrow.

Tell us more about your vacation habits and what you hope to achieve, and we can point you to ways to get that done.

Example: you could purchase a week at a Sheraton Desert Oasis and exchange it via Interval International (II) for the Disney Resorts which do show up. This comes with the caveat that if you want a specific week, that is NOT guaranteed. If you want a range of weeks and are flexible to visit any DVC resort which becomes available, this works very well.
If you really want Grand Floridian, you either have to rent, or purchase resale DVC points. If you purchase at one of the other DVC resorts, you will be allowed to reserve at Grand Floridian 7 months in advance.

Yes, I agree with this.

Buy a week that is a lockoff unit and deposit two one bedrooms and get two one bedrooms at one of the lowly DVC resorts that II gets, but you can get 1 bedrooms, which are great. I love Saratoga and Old Key West. Boulder Ridge is a favorite of ours, too, but rare to get. Also Boardwalk Villas is always a great exchange.

I would never buy Flex Options for any reason.

How much were they charging? I see nothing on that sheet with purchase price.

If you click on the photo OP posted you can swipe to see the photo of the contract with purchase price. Looks like OP paid around $22,000. As I said, for that price, Op can easily get a DVC resale contract, including a VGF contract.

Edit: Here it is:

Honestly, the OP is better off buying even DVC direct than this. At least that has resale value, can actually be used to book what OP wants, and also trades in II. I’d still recommend resale though.

Is it still true that weeks owners in Orlando can’t trade into DVC? I know this is a discussion of points/flex purchase. Just curious as I own a deeded week at Sheraton Vistana Resort. Thanks!

Yes, any week in the Orlando area that trades in II as a week, and not as points, won't see the II DVC Orlando inventory.
