dubious definition of an outbreak for the purpose of this study. "A school-associated outbreak was defined as the occurrence of two or more laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 cases§ among students or staff members at the school within a 14-day period"
So if in a school with 2000 kids two kids from completely different classes test positive 10 or days apart it is assumed that they got it from school? It would be interesting to see more granular data.

Pediatric covid-19 cases rose faster in counties without school mask requirements, CDC says

https://www.washingtonpost.com/education/2021/09/24/school-masks-cdc-studies

Face-mask requirements in schools drastically reduce the spread of Covid-19 among children, two studies published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggest.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Friday offered more evidence that school mask requirements can help keep children healthy and in classrooms, showing lower spikes in pediatric coronavirus cases and fewer school outbreaks in places that require them.

In an analysis of 520 U.S. counties, the CDC found that pediatric cases rose more sharply in places without school mask requirements. And in a separate report that looked at Arizona’s two most populous counties, the agency found that schools without mask requirements were 3.5 times as likely to experience an outbreak than schools with them.

Though polls show that a majority of parents support mask requirements — and despite recommendations from pediatricians and the CDC — schools remain bitterly divided over whether to implement them. Opponents of mask mandates say parents should get to decide whether their children wear them.

YES! I love the mask mandate in my state! I live in a big school district with close to 10,000 kids. With the mask mandate, We have only between 10-20 Covid cases per week, most of which weren’t transmitted at school. Also only 5-15 quarantines per week. Much better stats than the unmasked states to our south. And much safer until the kids under 12 are approved to get the vaccine.

Most importantly to our family is that my kids are IN SCHOOL all year without having to go remote or quarantine. Masks achieve that! My kids are happy too and are totally comfortable wearing their masks indoors

Your state seems to be doing almost as good as Sweden that hasn't had a mask mandate in schools (actually they advised against them)

Students needs to be in the classroom wearing masks to reduce the spreading of the COVID-19 disease.

Students also needs to change their mask daliy. IMHO

Oh Danny, Not a relevant comparison at all.
Sweden is very dissimilar and healthier to the U.S. in many ways. Sweden is much more sparsely populated. American obesity is 3 times Sweden’s rate.

Let’s compare apples to apples. (I have friends and business colleagues in Sweden and Finland who are acutely aware of this info)

Sweden’s Covid death rate is 10 times that of its Nordic neighbors with similar geography and lifestyle habits.

Meanwhile, in the last month or so since schools reopened, the “no masks in schools” states around mine have a 2-4 times Covid infection rate of the nearby states with mask mandates.

As my Swedish visitors have previously told me- America is nothing like Sweden

Our school district started the year with masks optional. Very few wore masks, probably 5%. After experiencing 2,000 quarantines in the first six weeks the decision was made to implement a mask mandate beginning Monday. Goal is to keep kids in school versus remote learning.

As I posted on another thread, our school district did not have a mask mandate. After 2,000 quarantines the school has just implemented a mask mandate beginning on Monday. Hopefully this can prevent the school going remote or hybrid again like they were last year. We need to keep the kids in school and if my kids have to wear a mask then so be it. Actually, my kids have worn a mask every day this year. They were the rarity for sure. I estimate that only 5% wore masks.

Watch this video and please tell me if Stockholm looks less populated than your neighborhood.

Sweden is more populated, has larger cities, a more extensive and more used public transportation system then the neighbors. It also started with a lot more community spread than the neighbors (earlier school break) and a lockdown would have not helped the initial outbreak. At the very beginning they had more deaths than about every other country (per capita) . Right now they are number 43rd!
In the context of school masks, I am not sure why you are NOT comparing Sweden with America or any other place. 25 kids in a class will act the same way in transmitting the virus.

In Sweden the kids have been in class without masks, in America they have mostly been with masks or learning from home. Sweden has been at almost zero deaths per day for the last 12 weeks.

Danny- another false equivalence.
Stockholm is the biggest city in Sweden, close to 20% of the overall population. That’s like saying NY City represents the entire U.S.

And the video you picked is the busiest tourist area in Stockholm, akin to Times Square in NYC. And everyone is outdoors.

And don't forget, Sweden is a government run socialist welfare state with healthcare for everyone

The same as Burkina Faso, Egypt, Cuba and many other countries. What is your point?

Schools With Face-Mask Requirements Had Fewer Covid-19 Outbreaks, CDC Study Finds
Two studies suggest that masks can help prevent classroom outbreaks and pediatric cases in the community

In another study, researchers at the CDC looked at pediatric Covid-19 case rates in 520 counties, some with and some without a masking requirement. After taking into account factors such as age, race, pediatric vaccination rate and rates of community transmission, they found that counties with school mask requirements had smaller increases in their rate of pediatric Covid-19 cases than those without those requirements.

"In summary, wearing a mask increases ETCO2 by 7.4% measured by gas capnography. Increased [CO2] causes increased CBF and reduced R2*, and induces global gray matter activation changes as in a CO2 gas challenge (Wise et al., 2007) or breath holding (Kastrup et al., 1999)."

We are really putting kids in danger by forcing them to wear masks that are detrimental for their health and development. It is rather shameful especially knowing that countries like Sweden have gone through the whole pandemic with no masks in school so the so called benefit in spreading the virus is rather marginal, if any. Emmy awards (and countless others) without masks? Oh, no problem with that.

Cmon Danny. Stop spreading misinformation. That’s been totally debunked by all the highest level scientists and organizations.
Are you really a Russian bot? All we hear from you is fake information.

In your opinion a scientific study is disinformation? I can point to several other papers that looked at the increased level of CO2 in the air when a mask is worn. But you know what, do not trust these studies, do your own. Run for 15 minutes with a mask then take it off. Do you feel you are breathing better or not? Are you trusting your own senses or not?

Naparuschna ba ta bachatna (I just made that up, hopefully it is not an insult in some language or dialect). LOL you are very funny.
