So, I started the process to upgrade to the the Hilton Max today in Hawaii.

As I was signing the paperwork, I had a family emergency so I had to leave.

Then after dinner, I felt uneasy about the purchase and started my research online.

I'm glad I found TUG.

They rescheduled for me to sign the paperwork on Thursday.

I signed up for the AMEX card to put the entire cost on the card.

I received a $150 gift card for attending the presentation which I already used for dinner tonight.

Also, I was gifted six day passes to use at the resort on Friday.

My questions:

1) When should I cancel or rescind?
a) On Thursday, tell the rep that I don't want to sign the rest of the paper work and cancel the deal?
or
b) Complete the paperwork and then rescind on Saturday when I'm back home? I'm inclined to do this since I already made plans to do use the day passes with my family.

2) Do I have to repay the $150 gift card and the six day passes that is worth about $500?

Thanks!

The gift card and passes were for attending the presentation. They are yours.

Has your AmEx card already been charged? Hopefully not, because you haven't finished the paperwork. If it has not been charged, you might want to put a temporary block on the card for the next few days.

I would go with option 1a. If you continue the signing process, it will look like you intend to complete the purchase.

1) When should I cancel or rescind? If you can resist the inevitable high-pressure attempt by the rep to complete the sale, then a) would be alright. Otherwise, answer b) if you will be able to put the rescission letter in the mail before the statutory rescission period expires.
