Dave M's request for updated MFs prompted me to log into my MVCI account.

While there, I went to the Mariott's Ko Olina Beach Club Resort Calendar and noticed two new (to me) seasons I hadn't noted before, Platinum Plus - Golden (week 17) and Platinum Plus - Obon (week 32).

I have a platinum week which runs from weeks 1-50. Will this new Platinum Plus season affect current Platinum owners or just new weeks that the developer is selling?

I called Marriott and this is what I understood. This does not affect prior purchases. You are still able to reserve your Platinum weeks 1-50.

The new Platinum Plus weeks applies to new purchases where you may buy a Platinum Plus - Golden (Week 17) or Platinum Plus - Obon (Week 32).

Platinum Plus-Golden includes April 29th, May 3rd, & May 5th, if possible.
Platinum Plus-Obon includes August 13-15, if possible. What are the significance in these dates?

I can't seem to find other resorts with these two new seasons. Are there other resorts with these two new seasons?

There are two PDF files for Ko Olina when you log into your MVCI account:

Marriott's Ko Olina Beach Club Resort Calendar
Marriott's Ko Olina Beach Club Product Information

The Product Information Sheet indicates:

Open Sales Date: 10/01/2001
Sales Start ; Japanese Fixed: 2 or 3/2006
First Occupancy: 1/2003

PP – Golden to include April 29th, May 3rd and May 5th (or as many as possible)
PP – Obon to include August 13 – 15 (or as many as possible).

The Product Information Sheet compares "1st Product" and "2nd Product." The new Platinum Plus weeks apply to 2nd Product only. On the second page, there's a list of the designated units for 2nd Product Platinum Plus weeks 17 & 32.

The annual Japanese "Golden Week" holiday, which covers roughly 10 days during late April/early May is a popular period for travel to Hawaii, with Oahu being the most popular destination. See also Frommer's explanation:
Note: If you plan to come to Hawaii between the last week in April and early May, be sure you book your accommodations, interisland air reservations, and car rentals in advance. In Japan, the last week of April is called Golden Week, because three Japanese holidays take place one after the other. Waikiki is especially busy with Japanese tourists during this time, but the neighbor islands also see dramatic increases.

Here is some information about Obon or Ancestor Day, which presumably is what the PP-Obon covers.

Thanks for the information, everyone. I also called this AM and spoke with a rather inexperienced person whom I had to even prompt to look at the resort calendar.

The new calendar only shows Friday and Saturday arrivals, which I questioned but did not receive a satisfactory answer -- "can't see us not offering Sunday arrivals."
