HGV website says that sales for the new Maui Resort in Kihei will start 1st quarter 2020. Has anybody gone to any sales presentations yet and if so, can they give us some of their impressions? We will be in Maui starting Feb. 7 and would be interested in checking out this new resort.

Excellent question. We will be there in May. Since there is an excellent sushi place with a half-price offer on Sunday and Monday as well as the Maui Brewing Company in Kihei, we could definitely plan a stop at HGVC Maui :)

Cheers.

We'll be in Kihei end of February. We always manage a drive by the location of the new HGVC property. It will be interesting to see what progress they've made since last year.

P.S. There are lots of good restaurants in the Kihei/Wailea area. ;)

I'm sure there are. But if I'm coming all the way over from Ka'anapali, I'm going to Sansei for the 50% off and then to Maui Brewing Company :)

Cheers.

Love Sansei. Will have to try the Maui Brewing Company, haven't yet. But if you're coming that far you should check out Gannon's in Wailea.

Sansei has the Hawaiian resident discount, is that the 50% you are referring to? We go to the early bird dining at 5-5:15 for 25% off.

Please share whatever you find out. ;)

The anticipated opening for the first phase is sometime next year (either Q1, Q2 and Q3 - see below).

According to last year’s Timeshare Authority article (link), the Maui Bay Villas project, will be built in three phases over the next eight years.
  • Phase 1 - four buildings with 131 units. Expected to be completed in in the first quarter 2021
  • Phase 2 - four buildings with 149 units. Construction is expected from September 2022 through August 2024.
  • Phase 3 - four buildings with 108 units. Construction is expected from November 2025 through July 2027 .

Nope. This one is not kamaʻāina, but open to anyone who orders between 5 and 6 on the designated days (usually Sunday & Monday, but may differ by island.

Cheers,

Hope this opens on time. Now I can use my hgvc points for Maui also. Dont have to use MVC dp points or trade for kaanapali anymore. Love these options.

Update on this. We're in Maui now and passed by the place a few days ago (Friday 2/21). There was a construction fence that surrounded the area and while I couldn't see through the wall, I saw a large construction crane so something must be going on. I have not found a phone number for a sales office (no signs for Sales or even the fact that this was an upcoming resort). The section closest to the beach isn't being worked on or fenced off. It doesn't seem like they're going to be starting any type of selling in the 1st quarter of this year...maybe by next year!

That sounds like what it looked like last year about this same time.

From what I observed snooping around they are a little behind schedule. Also observed crane but could not figure out if this was for framing or infrastruture footing. Did not appear from where I was that there was any wood storage which would suggest framing.

Some homes in Hawaii use metal framing (studs and tracks). We have a problem with termites.

Did you see metal studs on property?

Well Harry, you are a master of the understatement. I’ve been hearing about “Maui coming” for 10 years now.

I did not see any metal studs. The crane may have been one of those giant cement pouring devices. Wonder if the crosswalk issue was ever resolved? The local neighbor I spoke with 2 years ago thought this was a big stumbling block for Hilton?

As long as they are still working and making progress, I am happy.

I’m interested in seeing the points chart. Will it be on the same scale as Ocean Tower or worse.

Bummer. We have our EOY Westin Maui TS scheduled for summer 2021 and I was hoping to extend the trip with a few days at this resort. Now we can blow the points we were saving up elsewhere.

Summer is pretty easy to get at some of the Westins and Marriott with an ongoing search.

People get in a hurry to book airfare early, but I have decided it's a mistake to book sooner than 8-12 weeks out, so that gives you some time.

We drove through Kihei and didn't see any sales happenin' but they could be selling somewhere other than where the resort is.

I have never been to a Hilton timeshare.

Yea I was hoping the to go there in 2021 as well, but I wasn’t holding my breathe and picked up a SVV to trade into their Maui properties.

Sadly I expect the point increases to continue.
Perhaps this is one of the reasons they’re introducing the cash + points booking option. This will allow those who don’t have enough points to stay at the higher point resorts.

...We’ve already seen increased point requirements with the latest resorts.

For example, Ocean Tower which opened in 2018 has studios that range from 3,400 to 12,400 ClubPoints for a week stay during Platinum Season.

For example, a week in a one bedroom during Platinum Season
  • When we had a single point chart for all resorts, it ranged from 4,800 to 8,400 ClubPoints
  • When Grand Waikikian and Kings Land was added, it ranged from 7,200 to 12,600 ClubPoints
  • For Grand Islander which opened in 2017, a one bedroom now requires from 7,200 to 16,800 ClubPoints
  • For Ocean Tower which opened in 2018, a one bedroom now requires from 4,800 to 16,800 ClubPoints
For example, a week in a two bedroom during Platinum Season
  • When we had a single point chart for all resorts, it ranged from 7,000 to 9,600 ClubPoints
  • When Grand Waikikian and Kings Land was added, it ranged from 10,500 to 14,400 ClubPoints excluding the penthouse units for 24,000 ClubPoints
  • For Grand Islander which opened in 2017, a two bedroom now requires from 8,400 to 19,200 ClubPoints excluding the penthouse units that range between 17,500 and 24,000 ClubPoints
  • For Ocean Tower which opened in 2018, a two bedroom now requires from 10,500 to 19,200 ClubPoints excluding the penthouse units that range between 17,500 and 24,000 ClubPoints
from the Fall 2006 Grand Times (page 8)
"The amount of ClubPoints at HGVC resorts has been based on two factors: the season (Platinum, Gold, etc) and the type of unit (one bedroom, two bedroom, etc). Starting with the next generation of resorts, a third component will come into play.
The third dimension is the actual property itself.......The changes will affect the number of ClubPoints awarded to Members who own at these resorts, and it will also affect the number of ClubPoints all Members need to make reservations at the new properties. ...
The ClubPoints structure for the next generation of properties will reflect the unique aspects of the new resorts, such as furnishings, location, services and amenities..............

IMO...I like the idea of cash + points because it doesn't involve more ownership. However I am not holding my breath as to cost and expect it will be best for topping off a few points for a stay because it will likely be very expensive per point compared to owning.

I also like the cash + points concept as long as the cash amount isn’t ridiculously high.
I guess the amount of cash could vary from year to year as well. :(
