I'm looking for a new fridge. Just found that our old one is 27 years old.. My,how time flies..lol I guess we got our money's worth..

My problem is "space"...The area is 68" high x 33" wide.. I need a single door, bottom freezer; stainless steel or stainless look...The Kenmore at Sears is perfect.. But, I cant believe they charge for delivery and getting rid of old one... All other stores have no charge, but they don't sell Kenmore.. Just can't see paying an extra $80.. (being cheap)

What do you have and are you satisfied? Thx...Carta

I'm on my second Amana (first stayed with the house we sold). This one is bottom freezer. Definitely digging that. Ice maker also.

LOVE Amana, would do it over and over again.

see-thru shelves that pullout (freezer is more like coated-wire basket that pulls out and top wire shelf that pulls out)

adjustable everything (which I really like for the door but freezer door compartments not adjustable)

no problems whatsoever. First one I had 6 years, this one is 12 years now.

Not sure you can do better than $80 on delivery + haul away unless you find someone wanting the old fridge (very VERY old fridge....)

Kenmore is just a label these days. The Kenmore you like is probably identical to a GE, an Amana, a something. If you google the word Kenmore and the model number, you'll probably be able to find out that the Kenmore's parts are interchangeable with a GE or an Amana. Then go take a look at that GE or Amana and it will probably look very very similar to the Kenmore.

Have you tried PC Richards? I've had good luck with them on appliances.

I think we have the same Amana bottom freezer mentioned above. It's about 10 y.o. and I hope it lasts a good bit longer. After we had it, we remodeled our kitchen and built a very handy cabinet above the fridge for holding baking pans and cookie sheets and large bulky stuff like storage containers. The problem is we also installed 1 1/2" thick hardwood floor in the kitchen at the same time, leaving refrigerator space 69" high. The Amana is 68 1/2 x 33" wide. When I cruise through the local appliance stores, I see nearly all the new refrigerators are about 70" high. Long live the Amana!

In defense of Sears- they contract for their delivery/installers. They aren't employees. And today, many landfills don't allow refrigerators due to the CFC's (refrigerant) in their systems, so it requires special disposal rules. We just got a new dishwasher from them and there was a removal/disposal charge on the installer's sheet. I'm not thrilled with it, but if it is a good- leak free install, and only happens every 15 years or so is comes out cheap.

We have the same POS refrigerator that I've been kvetching about for four years. The ice dispenser quit. It makes a funny noise sometimes. But just refuses to die. And the compressor is still strong so it's not wasting electricity.

But WHEN IT DOES die, it is being replaced with a Subzero. There simply is no better. Sure, they're expensive, but they use the same amount of electricity as a 100w lightbulb. So, it's actually the least-expensive option (when amortized over the life of the 'fridge).

Kenmore vs. Amana vs. LG vs. Whirlpool is the same as "Ford vs Chevy" and "PC vs Mac."

If Subzero is simply too expensive, go with Kitchenaid. They're OK. Better than Kenmore/LG/Frigidaire/etc. But they're not a Subzero.

I just bought a Whirlpool French door white fridge (freezer on the bottom) I LOVE it. Gerry said that was the only brand to buy. I think Kenmore, Maytag and a couple of others are made bny Whirlpool too.
I did not like the stainless 'finish' too much wiping off fingerprints.
Peg's SO bought a Fridgidare that has a smudge proof stainless finish. That's made by Electrolux. Also, if it's just a stanless finish you can't put the grandkids pics on them....because it is NOT steel.

We are also in the market for a fridge of the same size. we have settled on a maytag mbr2258xes. bottom freezer, no water dipenser, very plain. We ended up getting the best price from our local appliance place $1118, free delivery. They would also take away our old one for free, but our local utility will recycle ours and give us $30 credit toward our bill. The price of 1118 is about $100 less than home depot (they wouldn't price match, said the place was too small, they only match national retailers.) and about $200 less than lowes and sears. I have read that you can use an automotive wax on the stainless steel to cut down on the smudging. I have also heard that pledge wipes for stainless are very good. When we went to sears i used one of their signs with a magnet to see if stuff would stick. It seems some stainless are more steel than others. good luck, I know I've had enough appliance shopping to last another 20 years. Below is a link to show who manufactures what for sears, hope it helps.
