Not that it gets approved, but that it actually works. My Dad was given a drug like this 25 years ago when he had a blockage in his left carotid artery. As the drug dissolved the blockage in his neck, it released tiny particles that caused a massive stroke in his brain. We were initially told he would never walk, talk, or be able to feed himself again, and would need to be fed from a tube. He was right-handed, and lost much use of his right side. Dragged his foot, couldn't write, etc, etc. But he could walk and talk and feed himself, just had to learn how to do it left handed, and by himself, since mom had just passed away.

That would indeed be the holy grail, but the above post outlines the snag. All that plaque has to go somewhere. It would have to be held in suspension in the bloodstream until eliminated by the liver/kidneys. All is well in the larger arteries/veins, but as the blood goes into the smaller capilaries, the plaque bits would clog and block the blood flow, causing strokes and embolisms.

I'm not holding my breath waiting for the approval of such a drug.

Well, if it has promise as discussed in testing so far, this would be a game changer. It would save the world billions in medical costs. My best friend had a stroke at age 46 and he's permanently disabled. He had a further procedure to unclog a carotid artery also. My dad died from a blood clot that formed after he had his carotid unblocked. I'm looking forward to drugs like this.

There's birth, there's death, and in between there's maintenance. ;)
