All,
[Edited: thread no longer relevant as it has been pointed out that Starwood is being bought by Hyatt]
I've been thinking a little bit about the Starwood/Hyatt/Interval relationship and still view it as a positive for Starwood owners (and II traders).
However, I think future developments will be different. I can't think of how Interval will develop a entirely new building - how do you brand it? I have to think one of the most complicated business points in the Starwood and Hyatt deals was brand poaching. Hyatt Hotels doesn't want Hyatt timeshare owners switching hotel loyalty to Starwood, and vice versa.
Already announced projects are easy to resolve but what about new development? Asset light is all the rage, but not as simple for Interval now that it controls two competing and respected brands.
What occurs to me is that we will keep the current properties, plus the announced ones, and that's it. Only new additions would be if there is a partial hotel conversion of an existing Hyatt or Starwood building, and it keeps the brand name. But no HGVC Grand Islander or HGVC Hilton Head type projects.
Any thoughts? Clearly - lots of speculation here.
Best,
Greg
