Costco has had special hours for senior citizens on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday between 8:00 am and 9:00 am for the last four weeks or so.

Today, I went to Costco and they made a special announcement to everyone (on multiple occasions) that beginning Monday May 4th, they will be open to senior citizens from 9:00 am to 10:00 am Monday thru Friday.

Not sure if this is happening nationwide or not, but thought TUG members would like to know about it. Suggest you check with your individual store to confirm their specific hours.

Stay safe and healthy!

Our Costco has a long line to get in, but it only takes about 15 minutes. I only got up once for the 8 AM time. I cannot get up that early.

Thank goodness, I work afternoons so I welcome this change. Hope this applies to our Costco here in MI.

I'll have to see if this will be happening at our local Costco. They've been opening here at 7:30 Tues to Thurs, and staying open. The line to get in hasn't really been enforced for Seniors Only.

My suspicion is that this is only for your local Costco. If you go to their website, their coVid update, dated today, still has Tuesday through Thursday as the only days with senior hours.

Went to Costco for Senior Hour today. Got there about 7am. I was probably 75 yards from the front door (but remember 6 foot spacing). By opening time there were 3 lines each over 100 yards long. Once inside I had to actively work at maintaining 6 foot distance. Most people did not seem to care. Many times I had to stop suddenly to avoid people that were acting stupid. I guess their time was more important than mine. But good news they had TP (2 brands Costco and Charmin), Paper Towels, and Sanitizing Wipes. Cost of TP has gone up. I was there to mainly shop for our 77 year old friend that has about 4 or 5 factors that would make COVID19 worse.

I've noticed the same thing - they're good about social distancing while waiting in line, but indoors it's like bumper cars at the county fair. :D

Send me some Sanitizing Wipes, would you? I haven't been able to find any out here. Lots of TP and paper towels and bottled water, even fresh meat and flour. But Clorox Wipes and Lysol Spray are just not to be found.

Dave, I've had better luck on the wipes and spray at Lowe's and HD. Even True Value had a surprisingly good selection and no crowds.

Next time I venture out I'll check. I saw a pallet of Clorox bleach a few weeks ago at Lowe's, but that was all they had.

Not specifically Costco, but we've found that senior hours at our local Fred Meyers, owned by Kroger, has senior hours, but at least half the people there aren't seniors. They don't have any one checking. Costco was better the last time I went. But I am going today and avoiding Senior hours as it's almost as though senior hours are pushing us all into and hour or two a day.
Pedro47, too bad you aren't here in Oregon as my wife and her sister have been making masks for a month or more. We have family in health care so first it was for them, but finally our daughter in law's sister told us they finally have enough provided. After 6 weeks. So now the local IGA store is taking them to sell at $5 and giving the money to the local food bank.

Went to my local Costco at seniors hours last week and got there a couple of minutes before opening. The well spaced line snaked around to the back of the building but moved in as quickly as you could walk when the doors opened. But 15 min later I looked back at the entrance and people were just walking straight in. Yesterday I went to our closest grocery store, and decided to show up a half an hour into seniors hour and I just walked right in. In future, I won't get there for the opening and line up....just show up a little later as there is no waiting.

This makes sense. Until recently, our local Costco's hours were 9am opening with old ppl hours 8-9 on Tues through Thurs. The last week+ opening hours changed to 10am with old ppl hours the same. 9-10 every weekday will be a nice change as I don't like setting my alarm that early!

Oh I forgot 2 things from today's trip. I was maybe 1 out of 10 wearing a Mask. It was an N95 Respirator. When I first went in as I mentioned it was mainly for our 77 year old friend. But I picked up TP and Sanitizing Wipes for us. After I got her stuff packed in Cold Bags in the Truck I went back in for us. I noticed there were only 3 5-Packs of sanitizing wipes left.

Haven't seen any sanitizing wipes, hand sanitizer, bleach or other disinfecting cleaners around here for a month.

@DaveNW try local brewpubs and restaurants that have converted to selling groceries. They are supplied from the wholesale restaurant supply chain which has more stock. I can get bleach, paper towels and toilet paper same day from that source. We order online and they are selling curbside from a refrigerated truck in the back of their parking lot so I don't even need to get out of my car and risk infection.

One of the most pea brained things that happened in our area early on, say week two of the shut down, was citing restaurants selling bulk food. You are not a grocery store, they said. You are a restaurant. You can't sell gallons of milk, raw meat, eggs or flour. You need to be a licensed grocer to sell those items. We will fine you and shut you down if you sell those items. That lasted about two news days before someone got a clue and figured out restaurants selling uncooked food items actually helped keep people fed. Duh.

I weren't to senior hour again this morning in Manassas, VA. They were definitely checking ID's. I got there about 0720 with ~50 people ahead of me. By the time they opened the doors at 0800, there were about 200-250 in line. Lots of TP and they even had Clorox wipes. They were also limiting members to 1 package of beef, pork and chicken so 3 total. Also starting Monday, senior hours are 0900-1000, M-F. Masks for everyone will be mandatory.

I did not see a requirement for the employees to wear a Face Mask. When I was at Costco yesterday few to no employees were wearing Face Masks.
Funny, the statement from Costco doesn't mention the Employees being required, just customers. Unless being a Costco employee automatically makes you a customer then they would be included.
Face Mask Requirements
To protect our members and employees, effective May 4, all Costco members and guests must wear a mask or face covering that covers the mouth and nose at all times while at Costco. This requirement does not apply to children under the age of 2 or to individuals who are unable to wear a mask or face covering due to a medical condition.

The use of a mask or face covering should not be seen as a substitute for social distancing. Please continue to observe rules regarding appropriate distancing while on Costco premises. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

A friend reported this new Mask requirement. So glad I went yesterday. Seems like overkill. Airplane? Sure, I can see that.

They could mark their aisles with arrows like other stores - not that people follow that! LOL! Oh, I know there aisles are wider.
