New Benefits for Vistana side

We had purchased a 2BR non-mandatory unit from the HOA and had it "qualified" prior to August 9, 2022. As part of the qualification, we received a Vistana Signature Network Owner Membership Agreement enrolling the VOI in VSN. I attached the Abound FAQ from Sept 2022 that covers this type of eligible VOI along with a resale unit from a non-authorized agent/HOA. I believe that #4 is good...... provided it was qualified/enrolled into VSN prior to August 9, 2022. Proof of qualification is the executed VSN Owner Membership Agreement.

Did they count this ownership? I can confirm that #4 counts. Regarding your purchase from the HOA, I did this with a voluntary property and as part of the deal they enrolled it in VSN. However, it was treated like a mandatory resale and not fully requalified, which the test was always if you could convert to Bonvoy points. I did fully requalify that resale and it does count for the new levels.

Did they count this ownership?
Partially. Our purchase of the 2BR deeded floating voluntary Sheraton unit from the HOA was back in 2013 under SVO. It did count for the Staroptions exchange. But it did not count toward Elite status, I don't believe it would have been able to convert to Starwood or now Bonvoy points and was not enrolled in SVN. So there was no executed vacation network agreement. In March 2022, at an Owners update, knowing the Abound merger was happening by the end of 2022, we did fully qualify this unit and did receive an executed VSN Owner Membership Agreement prior to the August 9, 2022 deadline for Abound. I believe the 81,000 Staroptions for this unit converts to 2,725 MVC points. And this unit does count towards our MVC benefit level.

I'm still not certain what Marriott counts. We have two resale WKORN 2-br VOIs purchased before August 2022. They have not been requalified. They would fall into item 5 in the chart in post#39. But, our owner benefits page shows those points INCLUDED in our Reserve status. Would love to know the definitive answer. I they are included, we would be fewer than 800 club points from the grandfathered Pinnacle status.

The Owner-Benefits-Page NUMBER/COUNT shows your Total-DCP [Qualified + Non-Qualified].
The Descriptor [Chairmans/Reserve/Pinnacle] is what matters.

Unfortunately, Marriott does not show the breakdown [Qualified V Non-Qualified].
This ambiguity has led to us speculating as to what "Counts" and what "Does Not Count".

"Reserve" is a broad range of 25K-40K [Post MAY-30-2027: 30K-40K].
Depending on what you own, we could analyze the various possibilities:
  1. Total of your Direct + Requalified Resale. If this totals ~25K, then you are Grandfathered into "Reserve".
  2. Total of your Direct + Requalified Resale. If this totals +30K, then you are Default "Reserve".
If you exclude your Resale-Non-Requalified [2 x 2BR-WORKN] from your total and you total 25K, it's possible that the 2 x WOKRN are not included.

You could either be 800 away [39200-DCP] from Pinnacle or maybe 12800 [27200-DCP] away from Pinnacle.
Being 800-Points away is tempting to Top-Off especially since you could benefit from the 40K grandfathering.

I believe that anything (maybe just mandatory?) you owned before August 2022 became automatically "re-qualified". My daughter has a resale WKOR unit that has all the normal benefits, including Bonvoy point conversion, that she bought before 2022. It is the only unit she owns.

Going forward, there is some wording that makes it unclear if new resale units, even if prequalified, will count towards Reserve/Pinnacle status.

General question: In a situation like Mroze, does it make sense to buy a very small number of points, with their accompanying maintenance fees, in order to get Pinnacle status? Can you even buy just a few hundred points?

I don't see a huge benefit of Pinnacle over Reserve, but if the cost is not too high, it might be worth getting there.

love that more and more systems are choosing clean, uncomplicated and straightforward changes to ownerships these days! *golfclap

Unfortunately, we simply don't know if we qualified for Reserve with just developer or with the resales included. The benefits page shows the total club points. But we are 30,800ish developer only, so that would qualify for the GF Reserve. I hate to go to an owner update just to find out. ...or be mislead by the sales person.

I don’t see any extra benefit to Pinnacle worth buying anything just to end up paying the extra dues every year. Marriott could have done better to offer something substantial at that level. They don’t even offer late check out.

How do the Vistana mandatory SO points line up with the levels?
It's all about how many Abound points each VOI/deed can elect for. No direct correlation to SOs for deeded weeks. For example, two 148,100 SO deeds (the typical 2BR week during high season) from different resorts can have totally different Abound election values.

I have 2 repurchased weeks (148,100 points each) at Kierland. I have been and still am at the Executive Level when I log in.

I have zero clue what my "club points" are since I never use them. We only stay within Westin and at one of 3 resorts (Princeville, Kierland or Desert Willows) so I never figured out what the equivalent CPs were.

Based on reported conversion rates, Kierland 148,100 SO ownerships elect to 4,050 club points, so 2 of them would get to 8,100 club points. Executive is 7,000 to 9,999 and it doesn't matter if they were purchased resale as they are only cut off for counting when you get to Reserve and Pinnacle tiers.

Since its 148100-SO EY its Platinum+ which for WKV corelates to 4050-DCP [Abound-Points] for each week you own.
Since they are resale [Mandatory] they do count toward the Levels up to Chairmans.
If they are resale [Mandatory/Voluntary] + [Not-Requalified] they will not impact the NEW-Levels [Reserve/Pinnacle].

The naming is all wrong!

Claude (Anthropic AI) prompt:
Hey, don't search this to find the real program, but assume there is a reward program with the following levels (not in order): Chairmans Club, Member, Reserve, Executive, Pinnacle, Select, Presidential. What order from low to high would you predict? No peeking!

ANSWER:
No peeking, promise. My guess, low to high:
  1. Member: the default "you signed up" tier.
  2. Select: sounds a notch above basic but still entry-level.
  3. Reserve: suggests something set aside, a bit more premium than Select.
  4. Executive: classic mid-to-upper tier.
  5. Pinnacle: literally "the peak," so high up, but programs like to put something above the peak.
  6. Presidential: evokes presidential suites; feels like a top published tier.
  7. Chairman's Club: sounds invite-only, the secret tier above the published ladder, the way casinos and airlines have unlisted top levels.
The ones I'm least sure about are Select vs. Reserve (they could easily be flipped) and Pinnacle vs. Presidential. The "Club" in Chairman's Club makes me fairly confident it's at the top.
END ANSWER

Hahahaha. That reminds me of an owners update in Bali where the rep said we were 'Double Chairman' and the first he had met with that many (30k) points. We had an update the next year at WKORV and mentioned it to the rep, and she wasn't happy with the name at all. "There's no such thing as Double Chairman!" Too funny.

So, I'm just going with Double Chairman from now on.

Looking at my portfolio printout picture I took last year, the Re-Sale Type Column options are "Authorized" vs. "Un-Authorized" My SVV Mandatory pre-2022, not requalified is the only entry showing as "Un-Authorized." The whole portfolio is usable across Abound; that is all I care about. This whole fiasco has now created two threads for Membership Levels: the Pre-September and Post-September levels, and the grandfathered VOI pre-2022 is not truly fully grandfathered. Again, just semantics for me- just Voodoo levels played by the MVC/Abound leadership.

wonder how many "owner updates" this is going to trigger for owners who want answers..... only to be told the answer is to buy more.

It would be nice, but the current situation is not so much. Here's what I see re: my point total (only by digging through on the Vistana side of things):

View attachment 129662

It doesn't reflect the 25K and 40K thresholds and doesn't indicate the non-eligible amounts. Seems like information that would help a fully informed decision if I were trying to get to Pinnacle, which I'm not, but asymmetric information is the backbone of timeshare and used car sales after all.

I asked about this in another thread a while back with no one having an answer. This "Boost Your Benefits" page makes no sense to me. In our case we own only 148,100 Westin Flex. This same page for us says our benefit level is Select (that is correct) but our Total Club Points Value is 6895 (that is not correct). I say not correct because on the Vistana "What I Own" page indicates our Club Points value as 5140, which is definitely all we would receive if we converted all of our Flex Points to Club Points. How are they coming up with a different, incorrect total on this "Boost Your Benefits" page?

The 5,140 number is correct for 148,100 flex options. That is quite a difference!

My initial thought would be bad IT, but it’s more likely operator error in their accounting for what you own….

Since I ended up at Pinnacle (somewhat surprisingly), I’m dying to know what they will try and sell me now. Maybe I won’t even get invited to owner updates…

Double Pinnacle...

First stay since the new benefit levels for me. The staff at the Marriott Surfwatch in Hilton Head told me they rolled out the new benefits on September 23.

The lady said that this was a Marriott Vacation Club rollout and was unsure if Vistana (part of Marriott Vacation International) was doing it yet. Can anybody who has been to one of the Vistana resorts confirm?

In my case (Reserve) I received an email last week telling me I'd likely be in one of the Barony Beach Club buildings further away from the beach, because there were a lot of owners coming back. The email was strange, because I did not initiate a conversation. Maybe they were just being proactive. In any case, I requested a top floor in one of the buildings closest to the beach, and that is what I got when I arrived. I have a decent ocean view.

They have a separate area for Reserve and Pinnacle check-ins plus a little area with free coffee and water, plus a few snacks. They also had some mimosas and I believe you can ask for beer too.

They also gave us some wrist bands that open our rooms and other guest doors at any of the resorts on the island. You can charge to your room at any of the resorts too. They are all linked together.

The attached pictures are from the Surfwatch pamphlet. I don't have one for Bariny Beach Club yet.
