I have AA freq flier miles and want to travel 12/16 - 12/23. I can get tickets to Hawaii or Grand Cayman. I was leaning toward GC because of flight w/small children but lodging prices seem to be outrageous. Any advice on 2 bdr place w/ nice pool and decent price? Thanks:shrug:

GC

I have never been to GC but i considered it once and then rejected it as I believe there is a hefty occupancy tax. If so, be sure to factor that into your costs.

GC is, IMHO, designed as a tourist rip-off. There's maybe one day's worth of actual activity (Stingray City, Island Tour), but after that its either shop (exchange-rate of $1.00 = 0.80 Cayman) or lounge on 7-mile beach. Now, its a damn-fine beach, one of the best (great for kids, too), but after a few days, it gets old.

Suggestion: Pack the kids off to Grandma (or some other relative) and have a blast in Hawaii. But if you must take them with you, ask your doc for some drugs, not for them, but for your fellow passengers. <kidding>

If you take the kids, I agree Hawaii would be a better bet. If its just relaxing and snorkeling, Scuba or beach walking, Grand Cayman.

Probably the cheapest (relatively speaking) is Hawaii.

Been to both and enjoyed both very much.

Cheers

Being that it is the week before Christmas and one of the lowest trading weeks of the year it seems you could get something either via trade or as an extra vacation. Have you thought of that?

Fordar,

Depends on where you are flying from but I would look into Morritt's or The Reef on the East End of Grand Cayman. Young kids are easy to please and these two resorts are perfect getaways for Mom and Dad with plenty of stuff for the kids to do as well. Both are right next door to each other far away from the 'popular' resorts of seven mile beach. I own at Morritt's and know both resorts well. There are so many family oriented things to do in Grand Cayman. Look for the Butterfly Farm, Botswain's Beach, (or Turtle Farm with sharks to see, swimming lagoons, interactive exhibits, etc) Stingray City Sandbar, Rum Point, Vivians, and great hiking trails for the whole family. Also some of the best snorkeling and scuba diving in the world.

Just my 2 cents

JB
