I currently have my landline and internet bundled thru Brighthouse and I'm paying $69.00 per month and I just got an increase to $89.00.

Can anyone offer up any providers that will give me abetter deal?

thanks

The Library is a zero cost alternative if you live close by.

George

During my waga-bond/homeless period ... (and "travel on the cheap" days) ... I learned where the FREE internet was: Home Depot, Lowes, Kohl's, McDonald's & fast food etc, Rite-aid & CVS, many motels and most timeshares and airports Also, I used my smart cell phone (very rarely).

PS I mostly used a tablet ... not laptop.

Leo Laporte highly recommends:

http://www.dslextreme.com/

I have never used this company (DSL Extreme) but I like to listen to Leo's program very much and value his advice. Here is his link:

http://www.techguylabs.com/

I am not sure if this company is in your area or not but it should tell you very quickly on their website. Good luck. :)

I need it for the kids for school and the occasional time I need to get on for work…

You are going to have to open the yellow pages and start calling the providers that have access to their systems where you live. As you discovered, it isn't helpful to find a highly recommended service with a cheap rate in California when you live in Michigan. Another angle: ask your neighbors and friends and your kids' schoolmates parents. Perhaps there is a 'home & student' discount bundle?

Personally, I don't find a bundle such as yours for $90 all that far out of line. Ours is almost $160/mo.

I live in northwest Detroit area. There is only one alternative with Brighthouse cable at $65 per month for naked internet vs. ATT DSL that I don't consider a viable service for what I do. A friend lives downriver (southwestern Detroit) and can get WOW and Xfinity who compete at about $30 or less per month. Where there is no competition there are no good deals. I think the local government charges a franchise fee to Brighthouse so they can keep the monopoly in my area.
