In the past when I would start the computer it would completely run through the start up process without stopping. Then a while back I must have done something to change the process.
Now when I start the computer it runs a couple minutes and a window pops up that says "Log on to Windows" and the computer waits for a password. Since I never use a password to open Windows, I just click "OK" and the computer completes the startup process. This OK action requires I either stick around and wait or come back later to complete start up. It's a big waste of time. How can I get rid of the "start Up" request for a windows password? :crash:

Quick reply without having a system to check against - try going into Control-Panel->Users, I'm thinking there's an option there determines if the system automatically logs into a given user's account. Was a new account created recently? I'm not sure if Windows can auto-login if there are multiple users on the system.

I did what you said, but can't find anything that allows a user to automatically log on to Windows. It did work that way before. I am the only user and am using XP. Thanks for your help.

I'm not too bright with computers but I think that happened to me once.

My DH instead of telling the computer to "turn off computer" he clicked on "log off' I then the next day had a similiar problem as you are having. and I think I had to go to user accounts and make some changes.

Someone with more knowledge will be able to help you better

My DW does this all the time and we don't have any startup problems. We have only the Administrator acct. w/o a password. I think its easier this way than having to log in to your own acct. every time you want to do something off line after your spouse has been logged into their acct. Then they'll have to log in if they want to do something else, and so on. We use our web browser to separate her interests from mine and the computer programs are common ground.

Thanks Bucky
I went to the link you recommended for XP and backed up the current Registry (as recommended) and then turned on "automatic logon" by modifying the registry. I found the instructions complicated but I finally got it done and I no longer get the logon window during startup.
As I have said before, Tuggers can always provide the right answers.
Thanks again. :cheer:
