Hi,

I am planning a weekend trip to Las Vegas for my parents in May. I found availablity through RCI points. But my RCI point account is frozen due to contract renew issue. It probably will take a few days to straighten out.

I called the resort to see if I can rent a 2 bedroom unit for them. I was told to wait until 45 days out. Do they open these units to owners before the 45 day window? Will an owner be able to put in a reservation for me?

Thanks a lot for your help,

Jane

You need to find a specific type of owner: A season two 2-bedroom owner who owns in the following buildings: Fountains, Plaza, Suites, or Terraces 4. There are a total of 975 owners out of the 25,400 total owners who meet this category. Those are the owners who can make a booking more than 45 days in advance during May with the first night a Friday. The reservation will be for 7 nights, but the remaining balance of nights can be cancelled and put back in the owners account if you only wish to stay a shorter time. This cancellation of the balance must be done no later than 3 days prior to arrival.

A second option might be to find an RCI Points owner. RCI Points owners can book up to 303 (slightly more than 10 months) in advance. This is a more expensive option because the owner will have to pay a per stay fee ranging from $49 to $99 to RCI and possibly an additional $39 to $89 fee to the resort. Besides the added cost, availability is limited for the RCI Points owners and the liklihood of getting the reservation is lower.

Hi James,

Thanks a lot for the information. That makes too hard for me to find someone and too much to ask. I am glad I found an expert here though. I will work harder on getting my points contract renewed. I will keep my finger crossed for a unit to be available through points or for rent at 45 days out.

Thanks again,

Jane

Hi James,

I forgot to ask what the $39-$89 resort fee is about. I know the RCI exchange fee is $69 or $79 for 3-4 days.

Thanks,

Jane

The RCI exchange fee is always $79 never $69 for either 3 or 4 nights, under the new fees effective January 1st 2006.

The resort fees are as follows: If an owner splits his week into shorter than 7 night stays within the same year, the resort charges the owner $39 for each second and subsequent trips.

An owner gets one Friday and one Saturday night for free for during split week stays for the year. After the first Friday and Saturday are used, each additional stay during these nights within the same year are assessed $25 per night.

Therefore the first scenario I quoted, booking a 7 night stay for an owner who has not yet used his time for the year would be assessed no split week or weekend fee.

RCI Points customers may book split week stays more than 45 days in advance (unlike all other Summer Bay at Las Vegas owners). Therefore this type of booking may include the $39 split week fee, plus two $25 nightly weekend charges equalling $89. As I said, the RCI Points owners often are not able to get their attempts at booking, because of resort capacity.

I am not in favor of the $39 split week charge and hope to convince our HOA Board to abolish this type of charge to our owners to take effect in 2007.

Hi James,

Thanks for the information. I got my RCI points account renewed already. It is much faster than I expected this time. I can borrow enough points for 4 night stay. I called RCI and this is what I found out as far as fee goes. $79 exchange fee + $59 cleaning fee + $5.04 per night local tax charge. So the total for a 4 night stay will be $158, plus 28,800 points. If I rent directly from the resort, the total for the same 4 nights is $545. But I will have to wait until 45 days out.

I got two more questions about the resort. Is there a shuttle bus going to/from the airport? How much is the charge? Also, my parents and their friends will leave Vegas Monday night. But I am thinking of getting Monday for them so that they can have a place to rest and leave their stuff. Is it necessary?

Thanks a lot for your help,

Jane

There is no shuttle operated by Summer Bay Resort at Las Vegas to and from the airport. There are other private operators that charge a fee, one company is called Bell Trans.

Summer Bay at Las Vegas is stricter than most hotels about check-out time. The penalty fee for late check-out can be severe. However, the resort has a luggage check-in room with claim tickets. Also every major casino and hotel will check-in non guests' luggage with claim tickets as well.

Therefore your parents can simply check-out and then valet their stuff at either Summer Bay or any other casino/hotel.
