My parents owned a timeshare in Florida. They never used it so they wanted to gift it to my sister and I. We both told the, that we were not interested. A couple of years passed and then I started receiving bills from the timeshare to pay for maintenance. I would send the bills back to the timeshare with a note that said I had nothing and wanted nothing to do with the timeshare. Six plus months would go by and another bill would come. My sister has never received a thing from the timeshare, lucky her! A week ago, a brochure for the timeshare was mailed to my house, but had my dads name on it, I threw it away. Today I got a piece of mail from a collection agency trying to get me to pay up! I have never signed anything saying that I wanted the timeshare, and my stepmother says that they stopped the transfer.

What am I to do?

Thanks in advance for the advice.

Is the timeshare in your name? If ownership was never transferred to you then just ignore the bills. What is the timeshare in question?

A few in S and VA, a single resort in NC, MD, PA, and UT, plus Jamaica and the Bahamas
The timeshare is either still in your parents name or has been transferred to you, in which case you will need to get with your parents (because they didn't stop the transfer) and the resort and tell them that the transfer was done without your knowledge and permission and will be quit claimed back to your parents and they are responsible for all of the bills. Dispute the bill from the collection agency.
