Thinking of booking a long weekend at this resort but frankly the reviews are scary! Plus there are so many different locations or villages and it is difficult to tell which ones are decent. From what I can discern Crestview is best but unavailable for my dates. Had anyone stayed there recently or have knowledge of the resort?

Crestview is the only Wyndham built units on premise so if you want more of the typical Wyndham experience then stick with Crestview. This resort is about two hours from us so we have stayed here several times since becoming owners so feel free to ask questions.

We have also stayed in both Ridge Top and River View units. They are more “rustic” in look and feel and are older units. Some of the older units have been renovated so if you book into the older sections - some folks on here can recommend unit numbers to request. In the river view section the units between 100-163 have been renovated from what I remember. We recently stayed in the river view area in unit 103 and it had been renovated somewhat - had newer countertops and updated bathrooms and so forth. Not updated like you would equate with normal Wyndham updates, the older units still feel older despite the updates. I would characterize them as relatively minor aesthetic updates as opposed to major overhauls.

We walked around the river view units and decided we would actually rather stay in a couple of the older non-renovated units that have much nicer river views. R49-R52. R50 and R51 in particular have nice river views. Here’s a couple of pics we took overlooking these particular units:

Thanks! Looking at 2 different weekends and Crestview is not available for either. The options are Fairway Village, Ridge Top, Depuy and River Village. I am ok with rustic but some of the pictures I have seen in online reviews are awful! It's close to us too and only a weekend so I figure I'll take a chance.

River village has been ok for us. Some of the other villages have been renovated a bit. You can call the resort to find out which ones have been most recently updated. But we’ve had good success with River Village.

As long as you know going in that the units aren’t the usual Wyndham quality then I think that is half the battle. The other half is then getting into a renovated unit in one of the older sections when possible. We don’t spend a ton of time in the actual units when we are there and don’t mind the rustic nature of the older units so we are OK either way.

Remember, this resort has a good size indoor heated swimming pool .. with LONG operating hours. Most units have an in unit washer & dryer. There is a resort shuttle van and free parking. There is an indoor gym with basketball court plus a FREE movie night and a cheap Bingo night (with prizes).

I found the Front Desk staff especially helpful several years ago … as we spent months and months staying there every 3 weeks Monday thru Friday AM due to my local "remodeling" project. I could book 4 nights (single nights or 2 night bookings for a 4 night stay). The Front Desk would shuffle units and ALWAYS kept us in just 1 unit for all 4 nights. We were working 10 hours days about 25 minutes away.

I have stayed there a few times. Once in Ridge Top and the rest of the time in Crestview. In my opinion, Crestview is fine if you want a homebased to do things in the area (which is what we used it for).

Otherwise, I would avoid Shawnee. The Ridge Top unit was disgusting. We actually hated staying there so much we went home 2 days early.

As for the pool and other facilities. I don't think it is particularly impressive.

However, as a home base during the winter there are some cool things to do.

White Lightning Snow Tubing (about 15 mins from Shawnee) on Friday Nights. Go all night long for $20 plus includes $5 credit for snack bar.

Air Boarding at Montage Mountain (Maybe 1.5 hrs from Shawnee). I LOVED IT! However, definitely can be dangerous. My daughter, who was off on the side, was rammed by some European as*hole who watching his go-pro instead of where he was going and my niece had a collision with a young skier. Both incidents involved a lot of tears. However, the some of the most fun I had in years.

I don't know when you stayed but We would rather be at ridge top than Crestview.
